Abstract: A hearing assistance device such as a hearing aid includes an antenna system that has an adaptive antenna configuration that can be dynamically optimized for communicating with one or more other devices at different locations. The hearing assistance device determines an approximately optimal antenna configuration and adjusts the antenna configuration to that approximately optimal antenna configuration using one or more switches coupled between the antenna system and a communication circuit of the hearing assistance device.

Abstract: A portable case for storing hearing assistance devices is described that includes at least one retention structure configured to retain at least part of a hearing assistance device, one or more communication units configured to exchange information between the portable case and one or more external devices, and at least one processor. The processor is configured to: detect when the at least one retention structure shares an electrical connection with the at least part of the hearing assistance device that is retained by the at least one retention structure; and responsive to receiving data, from the hearing assistance device, via the electrical connection, while the at least part of the hearing assistance device is retained by the at least one retention structure, cause the one or more communication units to communicate with exchange the information data between the portable case and the one or more external devices.

Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to devices and related systems and methods for detecting falls. In an embodiment, a hearing assistance device is included having a first control circuit and a first motion sensor. The first motion sensor can be disposed in a fixed position relative to a head of a subject wearing the hearing assistance device. A first microphone and a first transducer for generating sound can be in operational communication with the first control circuit. The first control circuit can be configured to evaluate data from one or more sensors to detect a possible fall of a subject in physical contact with the hearing assistance device. The device can be configured to wirelessly transmit data regarding a possible fall to another device including an indication of whether the possible fall was detected binaurally or monoaurally. Other embodiments are included herein.

In various applications the multi-mode radio can be used for long range and short range communications.

Abstract: An ear-wearable device includes a shell shaped for wearing in a user's ear. The shell comprises a tunnel wall shaped to define a tunnel that passes through the ear-wearable device. The tunnel wall defines one or more contact pin apertures through which distal ends of two or more contact pins pass. One or more electrical components are encased within the shell. The contact pins are conductors from the one or more electrical components. The distal ends of the contact pins are positioned to make electrical contact with terminals of a cable plug that is removably inserted into the tunnel.

Abstract: Various embodiments of a hearing assistance device and a method of forming such device are disclosed. The hearing assistance device can provide sound to an ear of a patient. The device includes a housing adapted to be worn on or behind the ear, hearing assistance components enclosed in the housing, and an earmold adapted to be worn in the ear. The device further includes a sound tube adapted to transmit sound from the housing to the earmold, and an earhook adapted to connect the housing to the sound tube. The earmold and the sound tube are printed three dimensionally (3D) as one piece that is custom fit for the patient using a computer-aided design software (CAD) model. Further, a first end of the sound tube is integral with the earmold.
