Abstract: An electronic device with a touch-sensitive surface and display can execute a messaging application. The messaging application provides options for sending a message with a large attachment. In one option it allows for sending a message with a large attachment by uploading and storing the attachment on a cloud server, embeds a link to the storage location in the message, and sends the message without the attachment. The messaging application may also include a UI element in the message that includes an indicator about the status of the stored attachment. Furthermore, the messaging application may embed in the message a smaller sized version of the attachment before sending the message. The status indicator may display whether the link to the storage location has expired or whether the attachment has previously been retrieved from the cloud server.

Abstract: Systems and methods for efficiently navigating between applications are disclosed herein. An example method includes: concurrently displaying: a first user interface (UI) associated with a first application, a status bar with status indications associated with system-wide functions; and a first affordance associated with a second application. While concurrently displaying, the method includes: detecting a first input that corresponds to selection of the affordance and, in response: replacing display of at least a portion of the first UI with a second UI that is associated with the second application; maintaining display of the status bar; and displaying a second affordance that is associated with the first application. While concurrently displaying, the method includes: detecting a second input that corresponds to selection of the second affordance and, in response: replacing display of at least a portion of the second UI with the first UI; and maintaining display of the status bar.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a map application with novel map exploration tools. In some embodiments, the map application executes on a mobile device (e.g., a handheld smartphone, a tablet, etc.) with a touch sensitive screen. The map application of some embodiments has a first display area to display a map of a region, and second and third display areas to display information about items displayed on the map in the first display area. In some embodiments, the second display area slides over the first display area to overlap at least a portion of the first display area. After the second display area slides over the first display area, the third display area in some embodiments slides over the first display area to overlap at least a portion of the first display area. In some embodiments, the second and third display areas slide over the first display area from one side of the first display area. This side is the bottom of the first display area in some embodiments. In some embodiments, the bottom side is expected to be closer to a position for resting the mobile device in a hand of a user than a top side of the first display area. Accordingly, in some embodiments, the second and third display areas slide up from the bottom side of the first display area so that information and/or controls that are provided in these display areas are more accessible for one handed operations (e.g., thumb-based touch operations) of the user as the user hold and interacts with the device with one hand.
