Door operator for opening, closing and locking at least one door panel on a transit vehicle. The door operator has at least one base portion for mounting on the vehicle and at least one fixed support member attached to the base portion. The door operator has door hangers for attachment of the door panel to the fixed support member and moveable door support members attached to the door hangers. The moveable door support members engage the fixed support member to support the door panel while permitting opening and closing motions of the panel. The operator includes at least one door drive having a base mounted portion and a hanger mounted portion engaging the base mounted portion to be moved thereby to move the panel in opening and closing directions. The operator has a lock for securing the door panel in a closed position, the lock having a lock shaft which includes at least one primary lock device for preventing motion of the base mounted door drive portion and at least one secondary lock device engaging one of the door hangers. The lock includes a lock shaft engaging mechanism which rotates the lock shaft to a locking position when the door panel is closed. The lock also has an unlocking actuator for unlocking the door panel, the unlocking actuator having a moveable portion connected to the lock shaft to rotate the lock shaft to the unlocking position.

A guidance assembly (28) guides a door (22) to a cabinet (10) while it is moved between an open position, in which access to an interior chamber is provided through an opening (16) in the cabinet, and a closed position, in which the door covers the opening. The guidance assembly includes two pivotable support members (90, 92) which are pivotally connected to the door. The pivotable support members each include a roller (110, 112) which rolls along a horizontal rail (80) mounted to an exterior wall (18) of the cabinet, adjacent an upper end of the opening. A door positioning system (130), comprising upper and lower door positioners (132, 134, 136), maintains a space between the door the cabinet during opening and closing the door. This prevents damage to the door and the exterior wall of the cabinet and to a sealing member (70) disposed between the door and the cabinet. As the door moves inward or outward, the pivotable support members pivot relative to the front face (46) of the door and U-shaped portions (142, 160) the door positioners flex to relieve any stresses placed on the rollers.
Abstract:
The sudden unrolling of an motor driven overhead door is a hazardous occurrence. The invention provides a method of detection and warning of a damaged counterbalance mechanism or other defect in the door lifting assembly. The amperage readings of the drive motor are observed to increase between 5% and 30%, above that of normal operation when the function of the counterbalance assembly or similar drive assembly component is compromised. The method is reduced to practice as a number of alternative electronic circuits which are placed between the line power source and the drive motor. The circuit senses the motor amperage draw and compares the reading with a preset threshold value. Upon the sensed value exceeding the threshold value, a warning is broadcast. This method alerts one of undue strain on a damaged lifting assembly prior to its catastrophic failure.

A method and apparatus for selectively securing and unsecuring a movable closure to a support frame is provided. The security device of the present invention comprises a locking assembly attached to the frame and a securing element attached to the closure. The locking assembly comprises a first rotating element having a detent, a second rotating element being engaged with the first rotating element, and a rotating latching element being selectively engageable with the second rotating element. When the movable closure is secured, the detent of the first rotating element is securely coupled with the securing element.

The present invention is provided with a mechanism for controlling the opening and closing of a door comprising a speed reduction means for reducing a rotational speed. A high speed shaft is connected to the speed reduction means and is connectable to a means for rotating the input shaft, and a low speed output shaft is connected to the speed reduction means. A governor is mounted on the input shaft for limiting the rotational speed thereof, to also regulate the rotational speed of the output shaft. A brake is provided for preventing rotation of the output shaft, and a self-closing mechanism is operatively connected to the door. The self-closing mechanism is adapted for storing energy when the door is opened to an open position, and a connecting means operatively connects the output shaft to the self-closing mechanism. A releasing means is provided for releasing the brake to permit rotation of the output shaft under the urging of the self-closing mechanism whereby the self-closing mechanism releases the energy stored therein so as to close the door to a closed position when the brake is released by the releasing means.

A keyless system for quickly and conveniently securing the storage area of a delivery type truck against unauthorized entry and theft while the driver is away from the truck making a delivery or pickup. In reaching a delivery point or approaching the truck after a pickup, the driver actuates a portable transmitter to generate a wireless signal which is received and processed by a receiver within the truck and which unlocks and opens the access door to the storage area. Upon exit from the storage area after selecting or depositing a package, the driver simply taps a switch located in the cab of the truck to generate a signal which causes the access door to close and lock automatically. Securement of the rear cargo loading door also is controlled by use of the portable transmitter to generate a further signal for operating the loading door lock.

This invention provides an existing garage door locking system with a motorized unlocking system that will unlock the garage door prior to motorized opening, but maintain garage accessability and security with the existing garage door locking system if a power or motorized garage door system failure occurs.

An apparatus for mechanically locking and unlocking a passenger access door panel on a railway vehicle which includes a locking lever arm, one end of which is pivotally secured to a movable door panel and having a roller secured at the opposite end, and having a biasing means to pivotally bias the roller against a locking support structure secured to a structure adjacent to the movable door panel when such door panel is moving into the closed position. The locking support structure has a first rail surface at an inclined angle to the door panel and a second rail surface which is substantially perpendicular to the door panel and is positioned so that the roller on the locking lever arm will roll along the first inclined rail surface when the door panel is moving into the closed position, and such that when the door panel reaches a fully closed position, the roller will move beyond such first inclined rail surface and be biased to move against the perpendicular rail surface to thereby lock the door panel in the fully closed position. The apparatus further includes an unlatching lever assembly that will pivot the locking lever arm and roller away from the perpendicular rail surface in response to automatic controls activated by a door opening mechanism, or in response to a manual controls.
Abstract:
An overhead door assembly designed particularly for use with vehicles such as railroad cars is disclosed. The door assembly is made up of an overhead door, vertical guide members for guiding the overhead door in the vertical direction and horizontal guide members for guiding the door in the horizontal direction. A motor is provided for driving the door between an open and a closed position. According to the invention, the door is first guided to a position directly in front of the door opening, but slightly spaced therefrom. The door is then moved horizontally in a plugging movement so as to securely close off the door opening.
