Abstract:
A gas chromatograph with multiple valves is disclosed. An embodiment of the multi-valve gas chromatograph includes multiple valves and multiple thermal conductivity detectors (TCD's). This allows separation and measurement of a gas sample in one compact integrated unit. Other features may also be present. For example, a first heating zone may include a band heater placed around the multi-valve block to heat the carrier gas and to keep the multi-valve block at a desired temperature. A second heating zone may include a spool and a cartridge heater to heat the columns through which the gas sample flows. Two sets of screws, one through the top of the multi-valve and one through the bottom, may be included to simplify maintenance of the multi-valve system. Insulation defining an oven can be placed around the assembly to stabilize the temperature of the multi-valve assembly.
Abstract:
A sample preparation method and apparatus is provided which is capable of automatic operation over a broad range with improved accuracy and precision, and which is capable of sampling with improved accuracy and flushing without operator intervention. A pair of syringes are used to measure large and small volumes of components, respectively, and can be operated automatically using a processor to prepare samples. Further, the method and apparatus incorporate a solvent selector valve which permits various solvents to be selected as required to prepare a particular sample. Automatic flushing of the apparatus is also provided after the preparation of each sample.
Abstract:
A method of separating chemical components in a simulated-moving-bed type continuous separator comprising a series of plural packed beds filled with adsorbent for selectively adsorbing a specific component in a crude solution, in which the packed beds are divided into three zones, and the functions assigned to the respective packed beds are successively shifted to the downstream side of the flow by the quantity of one bed by means of switching means such as a channel switching control valve comprising a stationary disc and a rotary disc rotatable thereon, thereby extracting a product solution containing a high percentage of the specific component.
Abstract:
A sample injection valve using a member having four ports as a fluid system inlet, a sample injection inlet, a fluid system outlet, and a vent. The valve also uses a fluid sample reservoir and includes a controller for simultaneously connecting the fluid system inlet and outlet and interposing the fluid reservoir between the sample injection inlet and the vent. A switch changes the position of the fluid reservoir to one of interposition between the fluid system inlet and the fluid system outlet.
Abstract:
A sample injection diaphragm valve is provided, as well as a plunger assembly and a method of operating the valve. The valve includes a valve head and a valve body. The valve includes a diaphragm positioned between the valve head and the valve body. The diaphragm has a process groove seated in the recess of the valve body for circulating fluid therein. Plungers are slidably fitted in plunger passages of the valve body. Each plunger is movable between a closed position wherein the plunger deforms the diaphragm and blocks fluid circulation between two process ports, and an open position wherein the plunger is retracted away from the diaphragm, thereby allowing fluid to circulate in the process groove. The plungers have linear lips extending across the top face of the plungers for pressing against the diaphragm when in the closed position.
Abstract:
A chromatographic apparatus for online enrichment of trace and ultra-trace components and an analytical method using the same. The apparatus includes an injection system, a vaporizing chamber, an enrichment system, a thermal box, a sample collection system, a focusing trap, a chromatographic analytical column system, a detector and an electronic control system. The method includes steps of sample enrichment, thermal desorption and back flushing, which are performed through a combination of a four-way valve and an electronic switch valve box.
Abstract:
A method of introducing a sample into a separation column includes introducing the sample into a trap column, isolating the trap column from ambient atmosphere and pressurizing the trap column to a first pressure while the trap column is isolated from ambient atmosphere, providing a fluid connection between the trap column and the separation column after pressurizing the trap column to the first pressure, supplying the sample from the trap column to the separation column.
