    Abstract: This disclosure is directed to reducing output voltage distortions of Variable Gain Amplifiers (VGAs). A VGA may include a number of amplifiers each providing a portion of a total gain of the VGA. For example, a processing circuit may select one or more of the amplifiers of the VGA to provide the output signal with a selected gain. However, the selected amplifiers may provide amplified signals with one or more distortion signals when receiving a bias voltage. Systems and methods are described to reduce or cancel the distortion signals of the selected amplifiers by providing a subthreshold nonzero bias voltage (e.g., a weak voltage) to the remaining (e.g., non-selected) amplifiers of the VGA. For example, the non-selected amplifiers may receive the weak voltage to provide distortion signals with similar voltage amplitude and out of phase compared to the distortion signals of the selected amplifiers.

    Abstract: A digital audio playback circuit includes a noise shaping circuit configured to receive an input digital audio signal, and a digital to analog converter (DAC) configured to convert the input digital audio signal to a pre-amplified output analog audio signal according to a gain ramp defined by a gain control signal. A muting circuit is configured to compare input digital audio signal to a threshold and assert a mute control signal when the input digital audio signal is below the threshold. An analog gain control ramp circuit is configured to generate the gain control signal in response to the mute control signal to cause the gain ramp to ramp down. An amplifier is configured to amplify the pre-amplified output analog audio signal for playback by an audio playback device.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to variable-gain amplifiers that include degeneration circuits configured to adapt to a gain mode that is currently being implemented. For example, a variable-gain amplifier can operate in a plurality of gain modes to amplify a signal with different levels of amplification. The variable-gain amplifier can include a gain circuit configured to amplify a signal and a degeneration circuit coupled to the gain circuit. The degeneration circuit can include an inductor and a switching-capacitive arm coupled in parallel to the inductor. The degeneration circuit can operate based on a current gain mode to change an inductance for the variable-gain amplifier.

    Abstract: Obtaining a bias control signal at a current source and responsively generating a fixed current, receiving a differential voltage input signal at corresponding differential input nodes of a plurality of differential amplifier stages connected to the current source, the plurality of differential amplifier stages comprising a primary amplifier stage and a set of supplemental amplifier stages, each of the plurality of differential amplifier stages having a pair of output nodes connected to common load impedances, generating an amplified differential voltage output signal on the pair of output nodes by directing the fixed current through the load impedances, and selectively connecting each supplemental amplifier stage in parallel to the primary amplifier stage via a corresponding gain control switch of a set of gain control switches connected to the primary amplifier stage and the plurality of supplemental amplifier stages to adjust an overall transconductance of the plurality of differential amplifier stages.
