Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods of improving skin appearance associated with skin aging. The method comprises the step of applying an anti-aging bioactive composition to a skin surface having at least one sign of aging. The anti-aging bioactive composition is applied for a period of time sufficient to improve the appearance of the at least one sign of aging. In one embodiment, the anti-aging bioactive composition comprises an effective amount of a Nelumbo nucifera (Sacred Lotus) serum fraction. In another embodiment, the anti-aging bioactive composition comprises an effective amount of a Chamomilla recutita (German Chamomile) Flower serum fraction. In other embodiments, the anti-aging bioactive composition can further include a dermatologically acceptable carrier.

Abstract: A process for improving sensitivity of a film base, coated with a dispersion of a normally crystalline polyacetylenic compound in a non-solvating liquid which is dried on the film surface, to particular photon energy band, specifically, long wavelength UV; the polyacetylenic compound preferably having at least two conjugated acetylenic linkages and containing from 12 to 60 carbon atoms. The sensitization of the film to long wavelength UV is achieved via the addition of photoinitiator(s) capable of absorbing UV energy and converting it to free radicals. The process comprises dispersing the normally crystalline polyacetylenic compound in the non-solvating liquid to a concentration of from about 2 to about 50% polyacetylene crystalline solids and a photoinitiator or combination of photoinitiators to a concentration of from 0.01 to 10%. The resultant dispersion is then coated and dried on a substrate. Additionally, applications using this film as a UVA illumination indicator and dosimeter are disclosed as well.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for obtaining an aqueous extract enriched with small RNA having a maximum length of 150 nucleotides, from plant material. The invention is characterized in that it comprises the following steps according to which: a) the plant material is put in contact with water; b) tetrasodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is added to the mixture obtained in a) at a pH between 10.5 and 11; c) then, the pH of the mixture obtained in b) is adjusted to a value between 6 and 8; d) the mixture obtained in c) is purified in such a manner as to eliminate the plant material and to recover an aqueous raw extract; and e) the pH is checked and readjusted if necessary to a value between 6 and 8. The invention also relates to an aqueous extract of plant material, enriched with small RNAs having a maximum length of 150 nucleotides, which can be obtained by such a method, as well as to the compositions comprising such an extract and to their cosmetic uses for combating the signs of skin aging and for improving the hydration of the skin.

Abstract: A hair straightening or hair styling composition comprising: (i) about 0.1 to about 70 wt. % of at least one hydroxy ketone, dihydroxy ketone or combinations thereof; (ii) about 0.1 to about 20 wt. % of at least one organic or inorganic base; (iii) optionally, about 0.1 to about 20 wt. % of at least one functional polymer; (iv) optionally, about 0.1 to about 20 wt. % of at least one diol, polyol, sugar, or combinations thereof; (v) optionally, about 0.1 to about 20 wt. % of at least one reducing agent; and (vi) about 40 to about 95 wt. % of at least one carrier; and wherein, the composition has a pH of about 5 to about 11. This application provides a process for preparing such hair styling or hair straightening composition and a method of use thereof.
