Abstract: An advance in the art is made according to aspects of the present disclosure directed to the detection and localization of a substantially static weight situated on aerial telecommunications fiber optic cable through the effect of phase-distributed acoustic sensing (ϕ-DAS) and signal analysis of ambient data. In sharp contrast to the prior art, our inventive method does not require a special optical fiber arrangement or type of fiber nor is it susceptible to range limitations that plague the prior art.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure describe systems, methods and structures for determining any location on a deployed fiber cable from an optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) curve using a movable mechanical vibration source to stimulate tiny vibration of fiber in deployed fiber cable along the cable route and a fiber sensing system at a central office to detect the vibration(s). Latitude and longitude of the location(s) of the vibration source is measured with a GPS device and a dynamic-OTDR distance is measured at central office (CO) simultaneously. The collected GPS location data and corresponding dynamic-OTDR distance data are paired and saved into a database. This saved data may be processed to graphically overlie a map thereby providing exact cable location on the map thereby providing carriers/service providers the ability to improve fiber fault location on a deployed fiber cable much faster and more accurately than presently possible using methods available in the art.

Abstract: Systems and methods for quantum key distribution using orbital angular momentum (OAM)-modes-enabled secure multidimensional coded modulation. The quantum key distribution including symbols of a raw key across subcarriers and multiplexing the subcarriers to form an electrical carrier. Then optically modulating the electrical carrier with an electro-optical modulator using an optical signal. The optically modulated electrical carrier is then imposed on a pre-determined OAM mode using an optical OAM multiplexer, attenuated, and transmitted across a quantum channel. A receiver then receives the transmitted signal and demultiplexes it with an optical OAM demultiplexer to extract projections. The projections then undergo optical-to-electrical conversion using a coherent optical detector with an optical signal from a local oscillator. A resulting estimated electrical carrier is then demultiplexed into subcarriers. The subcarrier undergo phase noise cancellation and subsequent demodulation to extract estimated symbol constellation points corresponding the symbols of the raw key.

Abstract: A method and network are provided for a reconfigurable optical sensor network. The method includes configuring, by a controller, the reconfigurable optical sensor network, including one or more reconfigurable optical space switches, for a type of sensor data. Abstract: Systems and methods for optical data transport, including controlling data transport across an optical transmission medium by generating two-dimensional (2D) distribution matchers (DMs) based on probabilistic fold shaping (PFS) and arbitrary probabilistic shaping (APS). The 2D PFS-based DM is can encode any N-fold rotationally symmetrical Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) format by applying the 2D PFS-based DM only to symbols in one quadrant based on a target entropy. A fold index yield uniform distribution is determined, and is utilized to carry generated uniform distributed parity check bits across the optical transmission medium. The 2D APS-based DM can encode any arbitrary modulation formats by encoding uniform binary data to generate non-uniform target symbols, and generating a probability distribution for the target symbols by indirectly applying the 2D APS-based DM based on a target probability distribution and a detected code rate of generated FEC code.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure describe apparatus, methods and systems for monitoring the operational status of fire extinguishers through the utilization of optically sensed, color profile determinations of a pressure gauge positioned on the fire extinguisher as well as the utilization of vibrational, and location sensing devices. Advantageously, monitoring apparatus according to the present disclosure are networkable, and a number of their operational characteristics may be configured via the network and associated servers. Furthermore, monitoring apparatus according to the present disclosure may employ vibrational, acceleration, GPS, RFID, and ultrasonic sensors to detect movement, location, and obstructions. In sharp contrast to the prior art, apparatus, methods and systems according to the present disclosure operate with existing fire extinguishers and provide a convenient, cost effective, and highly functional upgrade path for deployed fire extinguishers.
