Abstract: Airbag cushion assemblies for aspirating ambient air and related assemblies. Some embodiments may comprise an aspirating airbag cushion assembly comprising an airbag cushion, which may be configured to deploy from a housing or the like. The assembly may further comprise one or more inflation conduits configured to deliver inflation gas into the airbag cushion through a plurality of inflation ports. Each inflation conduit may comprise one or more features to improve aspiration efficiency, such as expanded distal portions and/or angled features to redirect inflation gases in a manner to improve the efficiency of the inflation gas to aspirate ambient air into the cushion.

Abstract: A knee airbag includes a front panel, rear panel coupled to the front panel to define an inflation chamber, and an intermediate panel between the front panel and the rear panel and within the inflation chamber. The intermediate panel is connected to the front panel and the rear panel at various locations between a proximal end and a distal end of the intermediate panel to control an inflated configuration of the knee airbag. First and second suspension portions suspend the proximal end of the intermediate panel between the front panel and the rear panel and are permeable to the passage of inflation gases. The first suspension portion extends between the front panel and the proximal end of the intermediate panel. The second suspension portion extends between the rear panel and the proximal end of the intermediate panel. An inflator for inflating the knee airbag is disposed in the inflation chamber at a proximal end of the knee airbag. An inflation gas diffusing arrangement is disposed in the inflation chamber between the inflator and the proximal end of the intermediate panel.

Abstract: Overhead airbag cushions are disclosed suitable for installation to a vehicle having an alternative seating arrangement, e.g., “campfire” or “living room” style seating wherein vehicle seating positions face each other. The overhead airbag cushion deploys from above a vehicle seating position to be disposed to receive at least a head of an occupant of the vehicle seating position. A reaction surface of the overhead airbag cushion may engage a roof, a windshield, or other structure of the vehicle to limit deflection of the overhead airbag cushion during loading as the occupant impacts the overhead airbag cushion. Internal and/or external tethers may assist in positioning and supporting the overhead airbag cushion.

Abstract: Cool burning hydrate fuels are provided for gas generant compositions for automotive inflatable restraint systems. The cool burning hydrate fuel is a compound comprising carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, a transition metal, and optionally nitrogen. The cool burning hydrate fuel is a transition metal salt of an organic compound or transition metal complex salt having (i) at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of: amide, imide, hydroxyl, carboxylic acid, and combinations thereof, (ii) an oxygen-to-carbon mole ratio of greater than or equal to about 0.5, (iii) at least one-half a water molecule of hydration, and (iv) an exothermic heat of formation of at least about −400 KJ/mole. The fuel may have a water release temperature of ≥about 140° C. The cool burning hydrate fuel may be one or more of copper cyanurate dihydrate, a copper melamine oxalate dihydrate, and a copper malonate hydrate.
