Abstract: According to a computer-implemented method for localizing a fifth wheel hitch coupler (3) of a motor vehicle (1), a camera image (8) depicting the hitch coupler (3) is received from a camera (2) of the motor vehicle (1) and a top view image is generated by projecting the camera image (8) to a plane, which is perpendicular to a predefined height axis of the motor vehicle (1). A contour map (13) representing a contour (14) of a coupler throat (4) of the hitch coupler (3) is determined based on the top view image and a two-dimensional in-plane position of the coupler throat (4) is determined by fitting a predefined geometric figure (17) to the contour (14) of the coupler throat (4).

Abstract: A method for forming a point cloud corresponding to the topography of an imaged environment involves acquiring an image of the environment with a camera having a WFOV lens mounted on a vehicle; changing the camera pose by an adjustment greater than a threshold; and acquiring another image of the environment with the camera at the changed pose. The images are mapped onto respective surfaces to form respective mapped images, defined by the same nonplanar geometry. One of the mapped images is divided into blocks of pixels. For each block, a depth map is formed by performing a search through the other mapped image to evaluate a disparity in the position of the location of the block of pixels in each of the mapped images. The depth map is converted into a partial point cloud corresponding to the local topography of the environment surrounding the vehicle as it moves through the environment.

Abstract: A method for automatically parking a vehicle in a parking slot involves manually driving the vehicle into the parking slot in a training step, and thereafter automatically driving the vehicle into the parking slot in a replay step. Automatically driving the vehicle into the parking slot involves detecting information of features of the environment of the vehicle corresponding to the driven trajectory, matching feature descriptors of the detected features of the environment with feature descriptors stored in the digital map, and re-localizing the vehicle against the trajectory stored in the digital map in order to navigate the vehicle along the stored trajectory into the parking slot. Automatically driving the vehicle into the parking slot is repeated multiple times, and involves deleting a feature descriptor stored in the digital map if the number of matches does not exceed a threshold after a predefined number of repetitions.
