Abstract:
The present invention aims to provide a polysiloxane composition which exhibits high heat and light resistance, and excellent gas-barrier properties. The polysiloxane composition of the present invention includes: (A) a modified polyhedral polysiloxane which is obtained by modifying (a) an alkenyl group-containing polyhedral polysiloxane compound with (b) a hydrosilyl group-containing compound; and (B) an organopolysiloxane containing at least two alkenyl groups in a molecule, wherein the polysiloxane composition after curing has a water vapor permeability of not more than 30 g/m2/24 h, and the polysiloxane composition includes (B1) an aryl group-containing organopolysiloxane as the organopolysiloxane (B), and/or (C) a component which is (C1) an organosilicon compound that contains one alkenyl or hydrosilyl group in a molecule, or (C2) a cyclic olefin compound that contains one carbon-carbon double bond in a molecule.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a moisture-proof material having a polyurethane film substrate and an adhesive layer formed on at least one surface of the substrate, which material shows a tensile strength of not less than 7500 psi, and an elongation at break of not less than 550%.
Abstract:
The present invention provides compositions useful as a barrier layer in, for example, packaging products. The compositions generally comprise a blend of (i) a polyester material, preferably an aromatic polyester resin such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and (ii) a vinyl alcohol material. The blend optionally may further comprise (iii) a polyolefin material (preferably a functionalized polyolefin material, e.g., a BYNEL material); and/or (iv) a polyamide material (preferably an amorphous polyamide material, e.g., a GRIVORY material), that optionally further comprises an oxygen scavenging material. The present invention also provides containers (e.g., containers formed by expansion of preforms) having a multilayered body-forming portion including: a core layer comprising the aforementioned blend, and inner and outer layers of a formable polymer composition. The present invention also provides methods of making such containers.

Abstract:
There is described a substantially planar, self supporting, sheet or film (optionally oriented) which comprises at least one layer comprising a first material which is highly crystalline polymer (preferably polypropylene of 99% or greater isotacity) together with at least two second material in an amount sufficient to improve one or more of the barrier properties, mechanical properties and/or optical properties of the sheet. The second material comprises a (a) nucleating agent; (b) a polymeric material having a ring and ball softening point from about 110null C. to about 170null C. and/or (c) a hydrogenated resin such as dicyclopentadiene hydrogenated resin, a hydrogenated mixed monomer resin; and/or a resin obtainable from a mixture of null-methyl styrene, indene and/or vinyl toluene momomers. Processes for making such films and compositions for use in the process are also described. Such films are useful in shrink wrap applications for example wrapping tobacco products.

Abstract:
Herein is disclosed an oxygen barrier composition comprising an oxygen barrier polymer and an oxygen scavenging polymer. The composition can be in the form of a physical blend or a cross-linked blend, and can further comprise a compatibilizer, a transesterification catalyst, or both. Preferably, the oxygen barrier polymer is poly(ethylene/vinyl alcohol) (EVOH), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), or polyamide other than MXD6. Preferably, the oxygen scavenging polymer comprises an ethylenic backbone and a pendant cyclic olefinic group, or the oxygen scavenging polymer is a polyamide derived at least in part from a xylene diamine-based monomer. The oxygen barrier composition can be formed into an oxygen barrier layer of a packaging article. Such layers and articles, and methods for making same, are also disclosed.
