Abstract: An apparatus and method, according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a transparent lighting source, a switchable opaque film bonded to the transparent lighting source to provide a vehicle component, and an electrical connection that connects to the transparent lighting source and the switchable opaque film such that the switchable opaque film is electrically controlled to switch between an opaque state and a transparent state. A control unit independently controls the switchable opaque film and the transparent lighting source based on a predetermined application for the vehicle component.

Abstract: An input/output device includes a first sensor electrode and a second sensor electrode. In addition, the input/output device includes a first electrode and a second electrode which are electrodes for a display element, and a substrate sandwiched between the first sensor electrode and the second sensor electrode. The second sensor electrode is formed concurrently with the first electrode using the same material. The input/output device sensors a change in capacitance of a capacitor formed between the first sensor electrode and the second sensor electrode. Furthermore, a third sensor electrode to which a floating potential is applied may be provided to overlap with the first electrode. In the input/output device, either a liquid crystal element or a light-emitting element may be used, or both the liquid crystal element and the light-emitting element may be used.

Abstract: A vehicular vision system includes a forward-viewing camera located behind and viewing through a vehicle windshield, a rearward-viewing camera located at a rear of the vehicle, and a common image processor operable for processing captured image data. A video display screen is located within the interior cabin of the vehicle viewable by a driver of the vehicle. The common image processor processes first image data captured by the forward-viewing camera to detect at least one vehicle present exterior the equipped vehicle. Responsive to the vehicle being shifted into a reverse gear and while the driver is executing a reversing maneuver, video images derived from image data captured by at least the rearward-viewing camera are displayed by the video display screen.

Abstract: An LCD panel includes an image capture device having an aperture, thin-film transistor layer, and an electronic ink reservoir. The thin-film transistor layer includes a first portion to provide an image on the LCD panel, a second portion, and a third portion. The second portion corresponds with the aperture, and the third portion immediately surrounds the second portion. The electronic ink reservoir is located proximate to the second and third portions of the thin-film transistor layer, and includes an electronic ink charged with a first charge state. The LCD panel directs the second portion of the thin-film transistor layer to provide a first electrical stimulus in a second charge state opposite to the first charge state to attract the electronic ink to the aperture to form a shutter for the image capture device and to block the aperture.
