Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide an ophthalmic measurement device. The device comprises one or more ophthalmic measurement features, configured to generate a measurement for an anatomical characteristic of an eye of a patient, and a user interface, configured to enable a medical practitioner to interact with the ophthalmic measurement device and a memory. The device also comprises a hardware processor configured to: determine whether the measurement satisfies measurement criteria based on comparing the measurement with the measurement criteria, upon determining that the measurement does not satisfy the measurement criteria, cause the one or more ophthalmic measurement features to generate a new measurement for the anatomical characteristic, determine whether the new measurement satisfies the measurement criteria based on comparing the new measurement with the measurement criteria, and, upon determining that the new measurement satisfies the measurement criteria, cause the user interface to display the new measurement.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to trocar-cannula insertion tools for ophthalmic procedures. In certain embodiments, a cap for a trocar-cannula insertion tool includes a body having a proximal end and a distal end opposite the proximal end. A marking element extends in a distal direction from the distal end of the body and includes at least one marking tip for forming one or more indentations on a patient's eye during an ophthalmic procedure. A manipulation element extends from the body in a direction different from the marking element and includes at least one manipulation tip for gripping a tissue of the patient's eye during the ophthalmic procedure. In certain embodiments, the cap further includes at least one window for exposing a photoluminescent cannula of the trocar-cannula insertion tool to light, enabling the cannula to absorb photons prior to insertion thereof.

Abstract: An Optical Coherence Tomography receiver may include prisms, polarizing beam splitters, reflectors, lenses, and a photodetector array arranged in a compact package. Sample and reference beams are combined into an interference beam and split in two. The two resulting interference beams are then split into two polarization sates each. The optical path lengths for both pairs of interference beams with the same polarization state are equal or nearly equal.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system for femtosecond ophthalmic surgery in which a measuring device and a camera generate data that is processed and used to create an enhanced pictorial representation based on the actual positions of the suction ring and the eye. The pictorial representation may include a graphic relating to ophthalmic surgery, such as for a flap or an incision. The disclosure further provides a method for docking a suction ring in femtosecond laser ophthalmic surgery, which includes observing and generating data relating to the position of the suction ring, generating data relating to a pictorial representation of the suction ring and the eye, processing the data relating to the observed position and the pictorial representation to generate an enhanced pictorial representation, and presenting it during surgery. The pictorial representation may include a graphic relating to ophthalmic surgery, such as for a flap or an incision.

Abstract: Particular embodiments disclosed herein provide a surgical instrument comprising a device having a proximal end and a functional end configured to be inserted into a body part, an assembly having a proximal end and a distal end, a shaft coupled to the proximal end of the assembly, the shaft having a shaft housing, a bearing positioned around the assembly, wherein the bearing is configured to slide over the assembly, a hub having a sleeve tube. The basket comprises a plurality of grooved levers, each grooved lever having a proximal end received by the shaft housing and a distal end coupled to a tip of the basket, wherein compressing one or more of the plurality of grooved levers moves the bearing and the hub relative to the shaft and toward the functional end of the device, causing the sleeve tube to transition the device from the deactivated state to an activated state.

Abstract: A system for selecting a preferred intraocular lens for implantation into an eye includes a controller having a processor and a tangible, non-transitory memory. The controller is configured to obtain diagnostic data of the eye, and obtain historical data composed of historical sets of patient data. The controller is configured to analyze individual risk factors based on the diagnostic data and obtain a weighted combination of the individual risk factors. A respective satisfaction metric for the plurality of intraocular lenses is generated based on the historical data. A preferred intraocular lens may be selected based in part on the respective satisfaction metric and the weighted combination. A visual simulation for each of the plurality of intraocular lenses may be performed, based in part on the diagnostic data. The visual simulation may incorporate an impact of the tear film data.

Abstract: Particular embodiments disclosed herein provide a retractable guard assembly coupled to a caster of a mobile equipment, comprising a housing and one or more guards at least partially disposed in the housing. The one or more guards are independently movably coupled to the housing. The retractable guard assembly further comprises corresponding one or more biasing elements coupled to the one or more guards and to the housing for biasing the one or more guards towards a fully deployed state. When the one or more guards are in the fully deployed state, contact between a fixed object and a portion of the one or more guards disposed outside the housing causes the one or more guards to transition into a retracted state, and when the contact is removed, the corresponding one or more biasing elements cause the one or more guards to transition into the fully deployed state.
