Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the production of a film comprising microfibrillated cellulose, wherein the method comprises the steps of; providing a suspension comprising between 70 weight-% to 100 weight-% of microfibrillated cellulose based on total dry weight, forming a fibrous web of said suspension, drying the web in a drying equipment wherein the web is at least partly dried at a drying rate above 75 kg(H2O)/m2/h by use of hot air whereby a film is formed. The invention also relates to a film produce according to the method and a paper or paperboard substrate comprising said film.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a heat-sealable packaging material, the method comprising the steps of: providing a paperboard substrate comprising a top ply, applying a first dispersion barrier layer on the top ply, wherein the first dispersion barrier layer comprises a latex having a first glass transition temperature, and applying a second dispersion barrier layer on the first barrier layer, wherein the second dispersion barrier layer comprises a latex having a second glass transition temperature, wherein the second glass transition temperature is higher than the first glass transition temperature, wherein the grammage of the second dispersion barrier layer is lower than the grammage of the first dispersion barrier layer, and wherein the second dispersion barrier layer comprises pigments. Abstract: The invention relates to a packaging material comprising: a paperboard substrate comprising a first and a second side, at least one barrier layer applied on the first side of the substrate, the barrier layer comprising a water-soluble polymer selected from the group of polyvinyl alcohol, a copolymer of ethylene and polyvinyl alcohol, starch, carboxymethylcellulose and combinations thereof in an amount of at least 50 weight %, based on the dry weight of the barrier layer, an extrusion coated layer of a polyolefin on the barrier layer, and at least one dispersion barrier layer applied on the second side of the substrate, which at least one dispersion barrier layer forms a printing surface of the packaging material. The invention further relates to a method of manufacturing a respective packaging material.

Abstract: The invention concerns a fibrous-based oxygen barrier film, which comprises (i) a microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) film, (ii) an oxygen barrier polymer layer, (iii) an optional tie layer, and (iv) an outermost polyolefin layer. The invention even concerns a laminate, in which said multilayer film is combined with a fibrous paper or board base by means of an intermediate polyethylene layer. The oxygen barrier polymerlayer, which preferably is EVOH, and the polyolefin layer are brought by coextrusion onto the MFC film. The film and the laminate according to the invention aim at an improved oxygen barrier in high humidity conditions and have use in oxygen-sensitive food packaging.

Abstract: The invention discloses a method to form a composition, which method includes fibrillating fibers to form MFC in the presence of an alkali-metal silicate whereby an MFC and silicate mixture is formed The presence of alkali-metal silicate during fibrillation of fibers to MFC, reduces the viscosity and increases the water release behavior, whereby the fibrillation can be accomplished at higher concentrations and a more uniform mixture of MFC-silicate is accomplished. The composition formed by the method of the invention may e.g. be used in paper or paperboard production, in cement production or as an additive in composites.
