Abstract:
An intrinsic gauging device for a ferrule type tube fitting of the type having a coupling nut, a coupling body and at least one ferrule, includes a precisely formed marking on the coupling body that is visually perceptible when the coupling is in a finger tight position, and that is covered or visually imperceptible or otherwise has a predetermined relationship with the coupling nut when the fitting has been initially pulled-up. In a preferred form, the marking is realized as a precision groove or recess machined into a surface of the coupling body. The groove can be made more easily visually perceptible such as by roughening or knurling the surface, or coloring the surface, for example. The groove defines an edge at a precise position that corresponds to a predetermined axial displacement of the nut relative to the body for initial pull-up. The marking may also be formed with a precise dimension such as an axial length to provide a second edge that corresponds to a predetermined axial displacement of the nut relative to the body beyond initial pull-up for fitting assemblies that are remade.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a coupling device to connect two tubular elements, preferably a hose with a tube, with one male coupling element (3) and one female coupling element (5) that are formed so that they can be inserted in one another and can be locked by means of an expandable split clip (33). An axially movable release device (35) interacts with the split clip to release the lock. The invention is characterized by the fact that the release device (35) has an indicator element which indicates a connection between the two coupling elements (3, 5).
Abstract:
A coupling arrangement comprising male and female pipe coupling parts. The arrangement comprises a body which can be connected to the male part, with two elongate elements which are connected by a ring acting as a radial spring and which define between themselves a slit aperture, which is covered by a strip of non-transparent, flexible material which comprises a transparent window or a through hole. One end of the body is formed with a radially projecting flange, which is adapted to engage behind a radially inwardly directed flange on the female part, defining a locking position. There is an indicator member which is axially displaceable within the body and adapted such that it moved by the female part against the effect of a spring member. In the locking position, a symbol on the indicator member, which symbol indicates this locking position, is visible in the window.
Abstract:
A retainer for releasably locking the male and female component of a quick connector together. The retainer is releasably insertable into a transverse bore formed in the female component and includes an edge slidable over a radial flange on the male component only when the male component is fully coupled in an axial bore in the female component. The engagement of the edges and the radial flange on the male component permits full insertion of the retainer into the transverse bore in the female component around the male component to lock the male component and female component together. Lock projections on the retainer engage grooves in the housing to releasably lock the retainer in a partially inserted, shipping position in the transverse bore in the female component and engage exterior lock surfaces on the housing on full insertion of the retainer to lock the retainer and the fully inserted male component to the female component.
Abstract:
A quick connect pop top indicator for use with thin walled connectors includes a generally annular sleeve adapted to fit adjacent an opening on a thin walled tubing housing member. The sleeve nests an indicator member substantially within the cap and housing. The indicator includes a base member and axially extending leg members extending from the base and connected to a generally annular indicator member. Means are provided for separating the indicator member from the base and leg members upon proper coupling of the housing with a corresponding male member. Means are also provided on the sleeve and indicator for maintaining the sleeve and indicator in proper axial and circumferential alignment prior to proper coupling of the housing and male member.
Abstract:
An improved fluid quick connect coupling includes a retainer and a lock ring. The lock ring locks the retainer legs against radially outward flexing. The lock ring is initially contacted by a tube being moved into the coupling, and moves with the tube, until it no longer prevents radially outward flexing of the retainer legs. The retainer legs then flex radially outwardly, allowing the tube to move to its fully inserted position. The lock ring is biased back outwardly once the tube is connected, and has tabs that extend axially outwardly beyond the retainer to provide a visual indication to the installer of when the tube is fully connected.
Abstract:
Connector assemblies for use with tubular conduits which mate with a housing having an axial bore for receiving one end of the conduit is disclosed. The connector assemblies include a latch having an inwardly extending projection which seats in behind an outwardly projection portion contained on the tubular conduit to retain the conduit within the housing. The latch thus provides a mechanism for establishing that the tubular conduit has been fully inserted within the housing upon connection.
Abstract:
A quick and leaktight joining device for tubular pipes having two tubular elements to be joined together, a device for locking in the joined condition, and a connection and/or locking telltale which can move between a first, visible, position and a second, concealed, position. Upon joining, one of the tubular elements to be joined and/or a locking device ensure(s) that the telltale is driven from the first, visible, position into the second, concealed, position. The quick and leaktight joining device is used, particularly in the motor industry for joining an engine cooling circuit to the water box of a unit heater or to the joining of a medium-pressure oil circuit of a motor vehicle power-assisted steering circuit.
Abstract:
A quick connector has a pair of waist segments, a shoulder segment, a body segment with an aperture therein, and a leg segment. The leg segment is defined by a pair of projecting elements which are at least partially compressible toward one another thereby causing the pair of waist segments to move toward one another. Thus, a swivelable connection is made which has the equivalent length and diameter of a convention nonswivelable threaded coupling. The quick connector may be released by hand or a snap ring tool inserted into holes.
Abstract:
A retainer for releasably locking the male and female component of a quick connector together. The retainer is releasably insertable into a transverse bore formed in the female component and includes a recess engageable with a radial flange on the male component only when the male component is fully coupled in an axial bore in the female component. The engagement of the recess and the radial flange on the male component permits full insertion of the retainer into the transverse bore in the female component around the male component to lock the male component and female component together. The female component has opposed interior surfaces spaced sufficiently apart to permit the deflectable legs formed on the retainer to flex apart while being slidingly urged over the male component to snap over the male component. The opposed surfaces block full insertion of the retainer into the female component when the male component is not fully seated in the female component. Lock projections are formed on the retainer to releasably lock the retainer in a partially inserted, shipping position in the transverse bore in the female component.
