Abstract: A mixer configured for releasing large bubbles into wastewater is provided. The mixer can include a central draft tube, an upwardly-extending member surrounding the draft tube, and an accumulator surrounding both the upwardly-extending member and the draft tube. A lower end of the draft tube sidewall may be sealed and not include any openings beneath the lower end of the upwardly-extending member, so as to prevent liquid pumpage through the draft tube. A method for treating wastewater in a system that includes at least one large bubble mixer and at least one fine bubble diffuser is also provided. The large bubble mixer and fine bubble diffuser may be supplied gas independently from one another. The method can include multiple modes of operation wherein gas is either supplied to the mixer, to the diffuser, to neither the mixer or the diffuser, or to both the mixer or the diffuser.

Abstract: A device and method for shortcut nitrogen removal and nitrite-oxidizing bacteria activity inhibition are disclosed herein. An embodiment of the present invention provides a hollow fiber diffuser comprising: a plurality of hollow fibers on which bacteria can be attached and grow; and an inlet capable of supplying gas to one sides of the plurality of hollow fibers, wherein the gas includes oxygen and carbon dioxide, nitrite can be produced by the oxygen, and the concentration of oxygen in the gas is adjusted by the oxygen and the carbon dioxide.

Abstract: A gassing device for the intermittent introduction of oxygen-containing gas or air into the waste water of a sewage treatment plant includes at least one membrane and a support body supporting the membrane and having gas-inlet openings. The membrane comprises a support membrane and a gassing membrane, wherein through-openings are arranged in the support membrane and continuous perforation slits are arranged in the gassing membrane and connected to the through-openings of the support membrane, or project into same, or are arranged inside the through-openings. The gassing membrane has a greater elasticity and is softer than the support membrane. The width of the through-openings of the support membrane decrease from the outer side and the gassing membrane projects partially or completely into the through-openings of the support membrane, and has a corresponding negative contour in relation to the through-openings of the support membrane.

Abstract: Wastewater influent is supplied to an aeration zone having a membrane module. Activated sludge is established in the aeration zone and an oxygen surplus is maintained by controlling a rate of oxygen supplied to the aeration zone. Wastewater influent is mixed with the activated sludge to form a first mixed liquid. A portion of the first mixed liquid is filtered to form a filtrate and unfiltered activated sludge. The unfiltered activated sludge is mixed with the activated sludge in the aeration zone to form the first mixed liquid. A portion of the first mixed liquid is transferred from the aeration zone to an anaerobic zone, and a second portion of first mixed liquid is mixed with activated sludge in the anaerobic zone to form a second mixed liquid. The second mixed liquid is recycled to the aerobic zone.

Abstract: The present invention provides an aeration lateral system designated to be site specific for new septic disposal areas or retro fitting to existing septic disposal areas to break up the biological clogging slug mat at the interface of the wastewater and imported sand or native soil fill under or adjacent to disposal areas of a typical septic system. The lateral system provides uniform or other site specific distribution of fluids about the bio-mat of a wastewater disposal area, with lateral spacing and hole spacing varying based on the type of disposal area being utilized. The lateral system can also be utilized to provide continuous low volume air supply system to a wastewater disposal area or peat filter module. The air lateral installation includes methods to minimize airflow disturbance of the soil and methods to prevent air leakage.

Abstract: There is a standpipe arrangement for holding and for supplying gas to aerators in a clarifying basin. The standpipe arrangement comprises a pipe conduit with holding means for aerators, with gas openings to the aerators and with means of fastening the pipe conduit on the base of the clarifying basin. The pipe conduit comprises several support pipes connected to each other, at the connection points of which fastening means are arranged. By way of the fastening means the support pipes are fixed both at a distance above the base of the clarifying basin as well as laterally and against rotation about the pipe axis, but can be moved along the pipe axis.

Abstract: An Aerator/Digester for treating wastewater comprises cylindrical chamber having a centrally disposed air pipe supported from the chambers closed bottom end and extending along a longitudinal axis of the cylindrical chamber and beyond the upper end. The air pipe includes at least one aperture pattern comprising plural interleaved rows of relatively small diameter holes and larger diameter holes. When air under pressure, is introduced through the air pipe, a Venturi effect is created to draw wastewater into the chamber via ports formed near the closed bottom end and out via one or more outlet ports proximate to the upper end. The apertures are drilled through the air pipe at an angle to the vertical with the small diameter apertures inclined at an upward angle and the larger diameter apertures at a downward angle which has been found to enhance the circulation of the wastewater.
