Abstract:
A composite pressure-sensitive hydrophilic adhesive such as for holding a medical or cosmetic treatment against the skin of a person is composed of a crosslinked polymer and a non-crosslinked polymer and a polar water-miscible solvent having a boiling point above 100.degree. C. at atmospheric pressure. The adhesive has little or no cold flow and can be applied in sheets. An alternate combination of polymers and a method of making both compositions is also disclosed.

Novel tackifier resins having a M.sub.n of 5,000 or less and a T.sub.g of 0.degree. C. or above are produced by combining a metallocene catalyst with an alpha-olefin and a cyclic monomer. New adhesives are produced by blending the novel tackifier with a base polymer.

Adhesive compositions comprising an aqueous based adhesive and one or more hydrophilic hydrocarbon surfactant(s) or fluorochemical surfactants and methods for bonding porous materials are described which are particularly suitable for bonding high density and/or high moisture content woods. Methods for bonding timber veneer and improving bond cure rates are also disclosed.

A hot melt adhesive composition is described which possesses properties which are desirable with respect to the construction of disposable articles. The adhesive composition includes about 10% to about 80%, by weight, of an alkali soluble polymer; about 0 to about 30%, by weight, of a poly (vinyl methyl ether); about 30% to about 70%, by weight, of a tackifying resin; and about 5% to about 30%, by weight, of a suitable plasticizer.

A microwave radiation absorbing adhesive comprises dissipative particles bound in a thermoplastic or thermosetting adhesive The absorbing adhesive may be applied directly to the surface of any object, or to an irregularly shaped object, or into cracks or crevices in or between objects, including conventional absorbers. Several types of dissipative particles and adhesives may be used.
Abstract:
An electrically conductive pressure sensitive adhesive is provided which is prepared by incorporating a conductive black filler into a pressure sensitive adhesive in such a manner as to impart electrical conductivity at a carbon concentration low enough to avoid adversely affecting the physical properties (such as tack) of the adhesive. By practice of the present invention, the carbon particles present in the adhesive are in the form of a carbon structure which optimizes the efficient employment of carbon by providing conductive pathways through the adhesive.

The invention relates to a method of contacting two components to form a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) construction, wherein the first component comprises a conventional PSA and an aminoxysilicon compound and the second component comprises the same PSA and an amidosilicon compound. The method provides improved adhesive bond strength over an unmodified PSA construction.
Abstract:
In the present invention, a polymer having a number average molecular weight (Mn) of from 200 to 40,000 and a glass transition point of from -75.degree. C. to +10.degree. C. which is obtained by the cationic polymerization of a branched alpha-olenin is used as a tackifier (a tacky producer) for a hot melt adhesive or a pressure-sensitive adhesive. An adhesive composition containing the polymer described above as a tackifier has excellent heat resistance, hue, weather resistance, and the like and has such excellent characteristics that its odor is weak.
