Abstract:
Provided is a phase plate having high phase compensation effect with low manufacturing cost, which is a device including a substrate and a thin film including laminated thin films of two or more types having different refractive indexes. The device performs phase compensation for an oblique incident polarized light ray, by using interference due to a high refractive index thin film and a low refractive index thin film.
Abstract:
Provided are multilayer laminates having one or more layers comprising twisted nematic liquid crystals and one or more layers of a polymeric sheet comprising a polymer with a modulus between 20,000 psi (138 MPa) and 100,000 psi (690 MPa). The twisted nematic liquid crystal layers reflect infrared radiation. Thus, the multilayer laminates are useful to reduce the transmission of infrared energy. For example, in some embodiments the multilayer laminates are useful as windows to reduce energy consumption necessary to cool the interior of a structure such as an automobile or building. Preferably, the multilayer laminates retain the beneficial properties of safety glass. The multilayer laminates may include additional layers such as infrared absorbing layers, half wave plates, and the like, to minimize the transmission of infrared energy. The multilayer laminates may also include further additional layers such as polymeric films, polymeric sheets, rigid sheets, and the like.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a liquid crystal display utilizing a vertically aligned state of liquid crystal molecules when no voltage is applied and to a method of manufacturing the same. The invention is aimed at providing a liquid crystal display and a method of manufacturing the same in which the existing step for forming vertical alignment films can be omitted to achieve a cost reduction. The liquid crystal display includes a monofunctional monomer having a structure expressed by X-R (where X represents an acrylate group or a methacrylate group, and R represents an organic group having a steroid skeleton). A liquid crystal material is sandwiched between substrates which is then irradiated with ultraviolet rays to cure the monofunctional monomer, thereby forming a polymer film at an interface of a substrate. The monofunctional monomer has a hydrophobic skeleton such as an alkyl chain and a photoreactive group on one side of the skeleton.

Abstract:
A bonding pad includes a metal layer, a gate insulting layer, a passivation layer, and a transparent conductive layer. The metal layer has a first metal pattern and a second metal pattern which are separated from each other. The gate insulating layer covers the metal layer, and the passivation layer covers the gate insulating layer. The gate insulating layer and the passivation layer have a first contact opening and a second contact opening respectively exposing a portion of the first metal pattern and a portion of the second metal pattern. The transparent conductive layer covers the passivation layer and fills the first and second contact openings. The transparent conductive layer on the second contact opening serves as a testing-probe contact area. The present invention also provides an active device array substrate having the bonding pad.
