Abstract: A method of transmitting broadcast data by a broadcast receiver that is connected to a companion device. The method includes receiving a broadcast signal including service data and Electronic Service Guide (ESG) information for the service data; time deinterleaving the service data and the ESG information; decoding the service data and the ESG information; and transmitting the ESG information to the companion device. Further, content information is acquired based on the ESG information, the content information representing component information including at least one of a video component element describing a role of a video component, an audio component element describing a role of an audio component, a closed caption component element describing a role of a closed caption component, or an application component element describing a role of an application component, and the content information further representing a capability element for the at least one of the video component or the audio component.

The broadcast signal receiver according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a synchronization and demodulation module configured to perform detection and OFDM demodulation on a received broadcast signal, a frame parsing and deinterleaving module configured to parse and deinterleave the signal frame of the broadcast signal, a demapping and decoding module configured to convert the data of at least one Physical Layer Pipe (PLP) of the broadcast signal into a bit domain and to FEC-decode the PLP data, and an output processing module configured to receive the data of the at least one PLP and to output the received data in a data stream form.

Abstract: A method for communicating with a companion device (CD) in a primary device (PD) includes receiving a broadcast signal from a broadcast station; generating a multicast advertisement message based on a simple service discovery protocol (SSDP) when the PD joins a network and sending the multicast advertisement message to a pre-defined address. Further, the multicast advertisement message includes duration information for which the multicast advertisement message is valid, further the duration information is signaled in a cache-control header. The multicast advertisement message further includes identifier information which uniquely identifies the PD, further the identifier information is signaled in a USN header, and the multicast advertisement message further includes device type information, further the device type information is signaled in a NT header.

Abstract: An apparatus for receiving broadcast signals includes a receiver configured to receive a broadcast signal; a time deinterleaver configured to time deinterleave a Time Interleaving (TI) block in the broadcast signal, the TI block including one or more Forward Error Correction (FEC) blocks, the broadcast signal includes information for a maximum number related to the one or more FEC blocks and information for a number of the one or more FEC blocks; a decoder configured to decode the broadcast signal, the decoded broadcast signal including a signal frame including: one or more components included in a content of a service and content information describing the content, the content information including component information including role information for at least one of an audio component, a video component or a closed caption component of the one or more components, the role information for the video component including an alternative view; and a display configured to display information related to the content based on the role information of the one or more components of the content in the decoded broadcast signal.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of transmitting broadcast signals. The method includes, generating input packets including broadcast content data; generating a link layer packet by using the generated input packets, wherein the link layer packet includes a link layer header and a link layer payload including the generated input packets, wherein the link layer header includes a count field indicating number of the input packets included in the link layer payload, wherein the link layer header further includes a length part, wherein the length part includes a plurality of length fields as many as that the count field indicates, wherein each of the length fields indicates length of the each input packets included in the link layer payload; generating a broadcast signal including the generated link layer packet; and transmitting the broadcast signal.
