Abstract: Techniques for weight checking for verification of ticket switching are disclosed herein. An example system includes: a weighing scale; cameras configured to capture images of items passing through a product scanning region and images of barcodes affixed to the items; a processor; and a memory storing instructions that cause the one or more processors to determine a first identification of an item based on the image of the barcode; determine a second identification of the item based on the image of the item; compare the first identification to the second identification to determine whether the two identifications match; based on determining that the two identifications do not match, generate a request for the user to place the item on the weighing scale; determine that the weight of the item does not match a first weight associated with the first identification of the item; and trigger one or more mitigation actions.

Abstract: An example bioptic barcode reader includes an imaging assembly, first illumination assembly, and second illumination assembly. No more than 10% of a light source of the second illumination assembly is visible within a boundary of a first imaging FOV of the imaging assembly. No more than 10% of a first mirror is visible within a boundary of a second imaging FOV of the imaging assembly. An upper edge of an aperture in an upper housing portion is outside a boundary of a first illumination FOV of the first illumination assembly. All or substantially all light rays from the second illumination assembly that pass through a horizontal window in a lower housing portion form respective angles relative to horizontal that are equal to or less than a second angle formed between a normal line of the first mirror and horizontal.

Abstract: Barcode readers with transflective mirrors are disclosed herein. An example barcode reader includes a housing and a window positioned within the housing, an imaging sensor and second imaging sensor positioned within the housing, and a transflective mirror positioned within the housing and in a path of a field-of-view of the imaging sensor. The field-of-view of the imaging sensor passes through the transflective mirror and out the window with the transflective mirror in a transmissive state and the field-of-view of the second imaging sensor is reflected off of the transflective mirror and out the window with the transflective mirror in a reflective state.

Abstract: A barcode scanner assembly for capturing at least one object appearing in a field of view (FOV) is provided that includes a scanner enclosure including a scanner enclosure body, a printed circuit board (PCB) at least partially disposed within the scanner enclosure, an imaging assembly coupled to the PCB, and a decode assembly positioned on the PCB. The scanner enclosure body has a top portion, a bottom portion opposite the top portion, a front portion, and a rear portion opposite the front portion and further defines an internal cavity. The PCB is positioned substantially parallel to an outbound imaging axis.

Abstract: Slot scanners with wakeup systems are disclosed herein. An example slot scanner assembly includes a wakeup system having an infrared (IR) transmitter configured to project IR illumination through a window of the slot scanner and an IR receiver. The IR receiver has a second field-of-view (FOV) directed through the window that overlaps a first FOV of an imaging assembly of the slot scanner by at least 50% at the window and has a second central axis that is non-perpendicular to the window such that the second central axis is tilted downward from horizontal with the slot scanner assembly positioned in a vertical first configuration where the window is in a generally upright orientation. A controller of the slot scanner is configured to activate an illumination system when the IR receiver detects IR illumination reflected from an object in the second FOV of the IR receiver.

Abstract: A barcode reader having lower and upper housings, a weigh platter in the lower housing, and an off-platter detection assembly. The weigh platter has a proximal edge adjacent the upper housing, a first lateral edge, and a distal edge. The off-platter detection assembly comprises an off-platter indication system having a plurality of linearly aligned light sources, each light source representing a location along the first lateral edge, and controller operatively coupled to the plurality of light sources. The controller is configured to: determine if an object extends over the first lateral edge; determine a location of the object along the first lateral edge; and illuminate a first portion of the light sources representing a distance between the proximal edge of the weigh platter and the object and de-illuminate a second portion of the light sources representing a distance between the object and the distal edge of the weigh platter.

Abstract: Example methods and apparatuses to mitigate specular reflections and direct illumination interference in bioptic barcode readers are disclosed. An example method includes creating a first sub-field of view passing through a first window, creating a second sub-field of view passing through a second window, while activating a first illumination source to illuminate the first sub-field of view and deactivating a second illumination source associated with the second sub-field of view, capturing first images of the first sub-field of view, while activating the second illumination source to illuminate the second sub-field of view and deactivating the first illumination source, capturing second images of the second sub-field of view, and attempting to decode a barcode within at least one of the first images and the second images.

Abstract: A system and methods for implementing a transflective mirror as a rolling shutter sensor. The method includes. The method includes a controller setting a current state of an obfuscator to a transmissive state at a first point in time, the first point in time being a time when all pixels of an imaging sensor are in an active state. An imaging sensor then obtains an image of an object in a field of view of the imaging sensor. The image is obtained at a time when the obfuscator is in the transmissive state. The controller then sets the current state of the obfuscator to an obfuscative state at a point in time before a single pixel of the plurality of pixels is switched to an inactive state, wherein the active state of a pixel is a state in which a pixel is an active optical detector, and the inactive state is a state in which a pixel is not an active optical detector.
