Abstract:
A contact lens comprising an optically transparent lens body having a concave surface adapted to the patient's eye curvature and a convex surface. The lens has three regions: (1) an annular region of a first optical power; (2) at the center of said annular region, which is also at the optical center of said lens, a substantially pinhole-like aperture; and (3) a second larger annular region exterior to the first annular region.
Abstract:
An annular mask contact lens designed to operate with the normal functioning of the human pupil. An annular mask forms a small pinhole-like aperture on the contact lens enabling continual focus correction. The outer diameter of the annular mask allows the wearer to transmit more light energy through the pupil as brightness levels decrease. The contact lens may be structured with two separate and distinct optical corrections, both at the small aperture region and in the region beyond the annular mask. Functional imaging is thus achieved for both bright and dim lighting, and over a wide range of viewing distances. Cosmetic and peripheral vision enhancement is also provided by the contact lens constructed according to the invention.
Abstract:
A masked intraocular lens for implantation into a human eye is presented. The mask, which blocks only part of the lens body, together with the pupil of the eye, defines a small aperture in the eye when the pupil is constricted, thereby increasing the depth of focus, as a pinhole camera does. When the pupil of the eye is dilated, additional light is allowed to pass through the pupil around the mask and to reach the retina to allow a person to see in dimmer light conditions. In one embodiment, the mask defines a small circular aperture and a larger exterior annulus; the small circular aperture has an additional power intermediate between that needed for distance and close vision. Also provided is a method for treating a patient with cataracts comprising replacing the patient's lens with the lens of the invention.
Abstract:
A scroll saw is disclosed having a base with a table mounted at one end and a horizontal pivot shaft mounted at an opposite end of the base. A yoke member having upper and lower arms and a curved bight connecting the arms is mounted on the pivot shaft at the curved bight. The arms of the yoke member terminate in upper and lower ends having a saw blade connected therebetween and extending through the table, and means are provided for reciprocating the yoke member and pivot shaft to effect movement of the saw blade. The opposite ends of the pivot shaft are mounted in tapered roller bearings disposed in bearing support openings in the base. Cap members are provided at each end of the bearing assembly to hold the roller bearings and shaft in place and a wave spring is mounted between one cap and one roller bearing to apply a compressive force to the roller bearings in the direction toward the yoke to hold the bearings, pivot shaft and yoke in place. The yoke member is adjustably locked to the pivot shaft by a pair of set screws which can be released to permit axial adjustment thereof.
Abstract:
An apparatus for testing glare susceptibility of a subject. A planar member having an opaque target is surrounded by a contrasting surface which is surrounded by a translucent surface. Light is directed to one side of the planar member and the subject's ability to see the target against the contrasting surface against a glare of light through the translucent surface determines the glare susceptibility of the subject.
Abstract:
The lower extremity of the handle means of a hand truck is pivotably associated with an axle of a pair of wheels. A frame, disposed in front of said handle means, is also pivotably associated with said axle. Elongated curved securing means are pivotably supported by a fork which spans said frame. A lever arm pivotably interconnecting the rearward extremity of said securing means and said handle means enables said securing means to be raised when the handle means is moved forward, and lowered onto cargo objects when said handle means is moved rearwardly.
Abstract:
A skateboard truck mountable to a deck of a skateboard, the truck comprising a base plate including a storage cavity formed within the base plate for removably accommodating a storage drawer for storing small items. The storage cavity is arranged facing away from the skateboard deck when the truck is mounted onto the deck. The base plate can include a biasing member disposed at a distal end for propelling the storage drawer outwards from the storage cavity. The storage drawer can include a latch adapted to releasably engage with a drawer retention feature provided within the storage cavity, thus preventing the storage drawer from sliding out of the storage cavity. A release pin is provided within the base plate for releasably engaging the latch to dislodge the latch from the retention feature allowing the storage drawer to slide out from the storage cavity to gain access to the items.
Abstract:
Image processing systems are described which utilize various methods and processing algorithms for enhancing or facilitating visual detection and/or sensing modalities for images captured in vivo by an intravascular visualization and treatment catheter. Such assemblies are configured to deliver energy, such as RF ablation, to an underlying target tissue for treatment in a controlled manner while directly visualizing the tissue during the ablation process.
