Abstract: A method for manufacturing microcapsules containing an active substance, the method including: providing an aqueous solution of a surfactant, an oily phase comprising the active substance and a first monomer, and a polar phase comprising a second monomer; preparing an oil-in-water emulsion by adding the oily phase to the aqueous solution of the surfactant; adding the polar phase to the oil-in-water emulsion, in order to obtain a polymer in a reaction mixture, by polymerization of the first monomer and the second monomer; isolating the microcapsules, including a wall formed by the polymer and containing the active substance, from the reaction mixture; wherein the polymer is a poly(beta-amino ester). Microcapsules obtained by the method.

Abstract: A blown film of soil biodegradable aliphatic polyesters produced primarily from diacid and diol monomers. The diacid monomers may be of any type including succinic acid, adipic acid, and hexanedioic acid. The diol monomer may be of any type including ethylene glycol, propanediol, butanediol, and hexanediol. Commercial aliphatic polyesters produced from diacid and diol monomers include polybutylene succinate (PBS), polybutylene adipate succinate (PBAS), and polybutylene adipate (PBA). Comonomers may also be added. Such comonomers include chemicals with a single carboxylic acid, hydroxy, or amine moiety, which act as chain terminators, chemicals with three or more carboxylic acid, epoxy, and/or hydroxy moieties which, act as branching agents.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods, compositions, reagents, systems, and kits to prepare and utilize poly (β-amino ester) (PBAE) polymers, which are synthesized via Michael addition reactions of diacrylates and amines disclosed herein. Various embodiments utilize lactones and lactone derivatives to generate the diacrylate compounds. Abstract: Herein we describe embodiments of shotgun shells, methods for loading such shotgun shells, and methods for using them. In some embodiments, the shotgun shells utilize a multi-component wad system with a biodegradable powder wad that stays intact through the firing process, and a separate and chemically distinct biodegradable shot wad that breaks apart within one meter after being shot out of the barrel of a shotgun. A clean release of the shot can be obtained, providing both high performance and biodegradability. The biodegradable shot wad can be a biodegradable polyester.

Abstract: Herein we describe embodiments of a biodegradable wad having a gas sealing function, as well as methods for their use. In some embodiments, the biodegradable wad comprises at least 50% by weight of a poly(butylene succinate co-adipate) polymer. In some embodiments, the biodegradable wad comprises at least two biodegradable polymers, wherein a first biodegradable polymer comprises a polybutylene succinate adipate polymer and a second biodegradable polymer comprises a polyhydroxyalkanoate polymer. Plastic debris has a negative economic and ecological impact, and thus it is advantageous to use implements that will degrade into environmentally benign compounds. Incorporating a biodegradable wad into shotgun shells provides an effective, economical solution, provided cost is acceptable and performance is not compromised. Suitable shotgun shells utilizing biodegradable shotgun wads and methods are described herein.
