Abstract:
A graphene-based lubricant is provided that includes a graphene-based additive. The graphene-based additive, along with and other optional additives is dispersed in a base liquid. A method of lubrication is also provided that includes the application of the composition to two mating surfaces to form a protective coating between the two mating surfaces.
Abstract:
A corrosion-resistant wet film lubricant composition includes a lubricating pigment, an oil, and a thickener. The lubricating pigment comprises graphene platelets and is dispersed in the oil, and the thickener thickens the wet film lubricant. The graphene platelets are oxidized and functionalized with a silane. In another example, a method of producing a corrosion-resistant lubricant includes oxidizing exfoliated graphene to produce oxidized graphene platelets, functionalizing the oxidized graphene platelets with a silane to produce functionalized graphene platelets, and dispersing the functionalized graphene platelets in a lubricant composition, wherein the lubricant composition comprises an oil and a thickener.
Abstract:
To provide a lubricating coating agent for plastic working, containing a non-black solid lubricating material, and a metal material coated with the agent, which enable highly difficult forging that has been conventionally difficult to practically apply to anything except lubricating coating films containing a black solid lubricant typified by molybdenum disulfide. The problems can be achieved by means of a lubricating coating agent for plastic working, which is characterized by containing, at 5 mass % or more in terms of solid content ratio in a coating film, a calcium sulfate hydrate with a particular scale-like crystal shape among calcium sulfate hydrates deposited by reacting a sulfuric acid or a sulfate with a calcium compound in water, and a metal material coated with the agent.
Abstract:
A method for improving wear control in an engine or other mechanical component lubricated with a lubricating oil by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil. The formulated oil has a composition including a lubricating oil base stock as a major component, and encapsulated microscale particles, as a minor component. The minor component contains no sulfur or phosphorus. The encapsulated microscale particles include an encapsulating material and a core material encapsulated by the encapsulating material. The core material includes at least one metal salt selected from a metal oxide, metal hydroxide, metal carbonate, or mixtures thereof. The encapsulating material is derived from a carboxylic acid selected from an aliphatic carboxylic acid, a cycloaliphatic carboxylic acid, an aromatic carboxylic acid, and mixtures thereof. The lubricating oils are useful in internal combustion engines.
Abstract:
Magnetorheological devices, including damping devices, rotary devices, and haptic systems constructed with said devices are disclosed. The devices contain dry magnetically-responsive particles, or MR fluids containing the magnetically responsive particles. The magnetically soft particles characterized by a single process yield population of atomized particles having a cumulative 10%, 50% and 90% by volume, fraction within specified size, i.e., D10 of from 2 up to and including a D10 of 5 μm, a D50 8 μm up to and including a D50 of 15 μm, a D90 of 25 μm up to and including a D90 of 40 μm, and characterized by a least squares regression of log normal particles size against cumulative volume % fraction of greater than or equal to 0.77.
Abstract:
