Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a universal remote control, which includes a display screen and a user input mechanism. The universal remote control also includes a processing unit that is configured to display information on the display screen and to accept selection data from the user input mechanism. The universal remote control additionally includes a wireless communication mechanism that is configured to provide communications between the processing unit and an appliance or computer program running on a computer system. The appliance provides information to be displayed on the display screen, and information entered through the user input mechanism is communicated to the appliance. Since the appliance provides the information to be displayed on the display screen and also interprets the entries on the input mechanism, the universal remote control needs no special knowledge about the appliance.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for enhancing efficiency (e.g., reducing power consumption and bus activity) in a data bus. In an exemplary embodiment, a client-driven host device state machine switches among various states, each comprising a different polling frequency. A client device on the data bus (e.g., serial bus) checks for non-productive periods of polling activity, and upon discovering such a period, informs the host. The state machine then alters its polling scheme; e.g., switches to a lower state comprising a reduced polling frequency, and polling continues at this reduced frequency. In one variant, the client device continuously monitors itself to determine whether it has any data to transmit to a host device and if so, the host is informed, and the state machine restarts (e.g., to its highest polling state). By eliminating extraneous polling, power consumption and serial bus activity is optimized, potentially on both the host and the client.

Abstract: In one aspect, a computer system for implementing asset tracker safety enhancements in an internet of things network comprising: a plurality of asset trackers, wherein each asset tracker tracks one or more IoT assets and obtains a set of IoT data; a server computing device configured to be in communication with the one or more networks, wherein the server computing device is further configured to implement the following logic: enhance the plurality of asset trackers with a plurality of sensors and a plurality of algorithms to detect and transmit an alert when a hazardous condition is detected, wherein the plurality of asset trackers monitor one or more IoT assets sensor data; and initiate a risk prevention or risk detection warning protocol when a specified probability of a hazardous material is detected by at least one asset tracker of the plurality of asset trackers.

Abstract: Various systems and methods for implementing EMG-based liveness detection are described herein. An EMG-based liveness detection system incorporated into a wearable device includes a plurality of electrodes to sense EMG signal data of a user; an amplifier to amplify the EMG signal data; a filter to remove signal noise from the EMG signal data; an analog-to-digital converter to analyze the EMG signal data and convert it to digital data; and a controller to: authenticate the user; perform an EMG-based liveness test of the user based on the digital data; and disable the wearable device when the EMG-based liveness test fails.
