Abstract: A system for cutting a web material and applying the web material on a substrate. The system comprises a feed roll configured to advance a web material. The system includes an anvil roll configured to receive the web material from the feed roll and provide a section of web material having a defined length. The system includes a cutting element configured to cut the web material to form the section of web material. The anvil roll is configured such that the anvil roll surface advances at an anvil roll surface speed. The feed roll is configured to rotate at a first feed roll surface speed that is slower than the anvil roll surface speed and a second feed roll surface speed that is substantially the same as the anvil roll surface speed when the cutting element cuts the web material.

Abstract: The invention features a reinforcement element including a continuous paper strip having a first side and a second side, a first adhesive composition disposed on at least one of the first side and second side.
The invention further features a paper reinforced tape including a continuous paper strip, a continuous paper backing layer and a first adhesive composition disposed between the continuous paper strip and the continuous paper hacking layer thereby adhering the continuous paper strip to the continuous paper backing layer.
The paper reinforced tapes and reinforcement elements of this invention have improved repulpability, recyclability, compostability and biodegradability. Further, these reinforcement elements and paper reinforced tapes, despite being predominately paper, unexpectedly provide excellent container reinforcement properties and further can be used as opening tapes, closing tapes and carrying handles.-

Abstract: Methods, articles, and apparatus that provide a dual function closure/opening system that utilizes a tape serving as both a sealing closure and as an opening mechanism. For example, in one embodiment, a single adhesive tape is introduced between a container flap and a container panel and then the container flap and the container panel are pressed together forming a bond between the flap and the panel via the adhesive tape thereby closing the container. In another embodiment, one end of a container includes two overlapping flaps and a single adhesive tape is introduced between the overlap of the two container flaps and then the container flaps are pressed together forming a bond between the flaps via the adhesive tape thereby closing the container. The methods and apparatus disclosed herein are directed to any container with at least one flap that overlaps a side panel of the container or that overlaps another flap.

Abstract: This invention claims hot melt adhesive compositions that can be used to form elastic composites that are useful in disposable absorbent articles.The hot melt adhesive compositions combine several desirable properties including low viscosity, low odor, a desirable retractive profile improved snap back) as demonstrated by low mechanical hysteresis values and acceptable adhesion. These properties make the hot melt adhesives well suited to forming elastic composites. The improved retractive profile further allows for the ability to apply a lower coat weight and still maintain the elastic properties.

The system includes an air heater coupled to the air flow path and configured to heat the compressed air and a liquid adhesive heater coupled to the adhesive flow path and configured to heat the liquid adhesive. The system also includes an applicator positioned downstream from the air and liquid adhesive heaters. The applicator is configured to receive the liquid adhesive from the adhesive flow path and the compressed air from the air flow path. The applicator is further configured to spray the liquid adhesive from the applicator using the compressed air.
