Disclosed herein are a light guide plate, a backlight assembly including the light guide plate, and a liquid crystal display device including the backlight assembly which can uniformly maintain the brightness uniformity and prevent the moiré phenomenon. The light guide plate in accordance with the present disclosure includes: an incident surface, to which light generated from a light source is incident, including a diffusion pattern formed in a round shape; an emitting surface, through which the light is emitted, including a first prism pattern; and an opposite surface, formed opposite to the emitting surface, including a direction change pattern by which the direction of the light is changed toward the emitting surface.

A backlight assembly includes a light source, a light-guide plate, a reflective sheet, a first prism sheet, a second prism sheet and a lateral reflective sheet. The light source generates light. The light-guide plate guides the light and has a plurality of first prism patterns adjacent to each other. The first prism patterns are formed on a first surface of the light-guide plate. The reflective sheet is disposed adjacent the first surface of the light-guide plate. The first and second prism sheets are disposed on a second surface of the light-guide plate. The lateral reflective sheet is disposed on the second prism sheet. The lateral reflective sheet includes reflective protrusions substantially parallel with a longitudinal direction of the light source. Therefore, brightness and display quality may be enhanced.

Disclosed are an apparatus for changing a pathway of light according to a visual field angle to relax a gray scale inversion and for use in a liquid crystal display device in a twisted nematic mode, and the liquid crystal display device having the same. The light pathway partially changing apparatus is disposed on a liquid crystal display panel changes the pathway of the light partially so that a part of the light is substantially transmitted in the same direction as the light proceeds while the rest of the light is transmitted through a changed pathway, in order to change a brightness of the light according to a visual field angle of a liquid crystal display panel to restrain a gray scale inversion of the images while the light passes through the liquid crystal display panel to make the images on the liquid crystal display panel. The rest of the light transmitted through the changed pathway causes to obtain the visual field angle of the liquid crystal display panel, while restrains the gray scale inversion of the images along with the part of the light passing through the liquid crystal display panel in the same direction as that of the light transmitted through a center of the liquid crystal display panel.

A dual prism sheet includes a base film, upper prisms formed on an upper surface of the base film and lower prisms formed on a lower surface of the base film. A cross-section of the upper and lower prisms is formed as an isosceles triangular shape having a base and a vertex angle, and a phase of the upper prisms is delayed between about 0 and about 0.5 times of a prism pitch with respect to a phase of the lower prisms.

A liquid crystal display (LCD) includes an image display unit, a backlight unit that supplies light to the display unit, and an optical film unit including a diffusion sheet and a prism sheet disposed between the display and the backlight units. The prism sheet includes right angle prisms and acute angle prisms that are greater in height than the right angle prisms, which are formed together in the prism film. The arrangement of prisms enables light that would otherwise be lost inside of the display to be recycled, thereby providing an increase in the efficiency of light use by the display and an increase in the angle at which light exits it.

An optical sheet includes a reflective polarizer and a filter layer. The reflective polarizer reflects a part of incident light and transmits another part of the incident light. The filter layer selectively reflects the transmitted light passed through the reflective polarizer. The filter layer reflects at least one of a first wave band that is an overlapped area between a green peak and a blue peak in the spectrum of incident light, and a second wave band that is an overlapped area between a green peak and a red peak in the spectrum of incident light.
Abstract:
A light condenser for an LCD includes a base layer, a condensing layer and a lower surface-treated layer. The condensing layer is disposed on the base layer and has a condensing pattern formed therein. The lower surface-treated layer is disposed below the base layer and has a plurality of protrusions extending downwardly therefrom. Each of the protrusions has a substantially round shape. The novel light condenser enables the number of optical elements needed in a display apparatus to be reduced, thereby reducing LCD manufacturing costs. Additionally, the light condenser prevents a mutual scratching and adhesion problem between the condenser and a diffusing plate of the LCD, thereby improving the quality of the image produced by the display.

A backlight assembly includes a flat fluorescent lamp, a light condensing member, a support member and a light diffusing member. The flat fluorescent lamp has a plurality of discharge spaces to generate light. The light condensing member is disposed over the flat fluorescent lamp to condense the light generated by the flat fluorescent lamp. The support member is disposed between the flat fluorescent lamp and the light condensing member to support the light condensing member. The light diffusing member is disposed over the light condensing member. Therefore, the light condensing member having a prism pattern is disposed between the light diffusing member and the flat fluorescent lamp to enhance luminance uniformity and to decrease thickness of the backlight assembly. Additionally, the support member is formed between the flat fluorescent lamp and the light condensing member to prevent the sagging of the light condensing member.
