Abstract:
A method and apparatus for communicating amongst two-way radios is disclosed. The method includes operating a two-way radio 130 in either a trunked mode or conventional mode over an operating frequency and scanning an auxiliary channel by the two-way radio 130 to enable radio communication on the auxiliary channel while maintaining the operating frequency active. The radio 130 further detects a signal on the auxiliary channel with another radio 150 and communicating on the auxiliary channel in an intercom mode to provide an intercom radio-to-radio communication amongst all radios 130, 140 scanning on the auxiliary channel.
Abstract:
A method and system for assigning priority to a talk group of a plurality of talk groups in a communication network (100) is provided. The method includes detecting (304) activity on a first talk group (108) via a Vehicular Repeater (VR) (106). The first talk group is associated with a lower priority than that of a second talk group (110). The method also comprises assigning (306) a higher priority to the first talk group and the lower priority to the second talk group, based on the step of detecting. Further, the method comprises dynamically re-assigning (308) the higher priority and the lower priority amongst the plurality of talk groups, based on detecting activity.
Abstract:
A system (100) and method (200) for providing a multiple channel site for supporting talk group activity is provided. The method includes determining (202) an arrival time (141) of a plurality of Vehicular Repeater System (VRS) (101-103) to a vicinity (140), identifying (204) talk group activity among the plurality of PSUs (171-176) in the vicinity, and assigning VRSs to talk groups in order of arrival time and talk group activity. A master VRS maintains and updates (322) a list of recently active talk groups (TG), orders (324) the list by frequency of use of a talk group, forwards the list to slave VRSs and PSUs, and allocates (326) single channels in view of the list to the slave VRSs. PSUs in the vicinity can read the assignment list and update their communication channel based on a selected talk group in the list.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for scanning amongst two-way radios is disclosed. The method includes applying a scan probability index (SPI) to each member of a scan list, the SPI indicating a likelihood of channel activity. The SPI is dynamically updated by a variety of processes. Members are loaded from the scan list, and the SPI of the loaded member is compared to a threshold. Members are skipped or checked for activity based on the SPI passing or failing the threshold. Members having a sufficient SPI will proceed to have detected channel activity decoded. The method and apparatus may utilize both normal scan members and vote scan member frequencies.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for managing power consumption on a trunked network include listening to a control channel on a trunked system with a trunked pager, and receiving a voice channel assignment. The trunked pager listens for voice traffic on the assigned voice channel while in a standby mode. Voice traffic is detected and the trunked pager determines whether the voice traffic is for a communication group that includes the trunked pager. If so, the trunked pager unmutes and listens to the voice traffic. Upon termination of the voice traffic, the trunked pager returns to the control channel to listen for a different voice channel assignment. Otherwise, the trunked pager directly returns to the control channel to listen for a different voice channel assignment.
Abstract:
A method and system for communicating within a wireless communication network (200) is provided. The communication between Portable Subscriber Units (PSUs) (104 and 106) by using a Vehicular Repeater (110) over a conventional communication link (102) is attempted (404). If the conventional communication link attempt fails (406), the communication is initiated directly from one PSU (104) to at least one other PSU (106) by using a direct channel link (202).

Abstract:
One or more RFID tags (104) are integrated into a fire hose (102) to facilitate an individual's exit from a structure. A portable interrogator (106) worn by the individual interrogates the closest RFID tag (104). Each RFID tag (104) has location information stored therein which gets decoded upon interrogation by the portable interrogator (106). The RFID location information assists the individual in locating the hose (102) and following the hose towards its source point (110) and out of the structure.
