A substrate includes an iron-nickel alloy core or a cobalt-nickel ferrous alloy core, a chromium conversion coating on at least a portion of the core, and an insulating coating on the chromium conversion coating. A method of making a substrate includes: providing an iron-nickel alloy core or a cobalt-nickel ferrous alloy core, applying a chromium conversion coating on at least a portion of the core, and applying an insulating coating on the chromium conversion coating.
Abstract:
The disclosed embodiments relate to transparent and/or non-disruptive systems and methods for monitoring and analyzing actual space utilization, and in particular, analyzing space utilization over time and/or in real time to accurately understand and report the utilization of the space. In particular, the disclosed embodiments analyze data representative of occupancy of the space, the data being autonomously determined based on the likelihood that occupants are present within the space. The data is periodically determined and automatically reported to an automated collection system which collects the data and forwards it to a central repository for analysis. The data is then analyzed to provide meaningful reports regarding occupancy of the space or otherwise contextualize the utilization of the space. Further, the data collected from different spaces may be anonymized, aggregated, or otherwise combined, and analyzed to contextualize a given space's utilization, provide utilization forecasts, etc.
Abstract:
A computerized game and physical game piece provide the basis for establishing communication among members of an online community. An individual purchases or trades for a game piece which has a serial number thereon. The game piece also has a design that is representative of a message that individuals desire to convey. The game pieces are carried in a holder that allows for convenient trading of game pieces in the real world. Upon receiving a game piece, the individual registers the game piece on a website and is given access to a game piece profile and member profiles on the systems. Communications between members of the online community are based upon common ownership of the game piece. The online community includes messaging among members and online discussions regarding the game pieces and the messages thereon. The website tracks the series of possessors of game pieces and their real world locations.
Abstract:
A securing mechanism is provided for an electrical switching apparatus, such as a circuit breaker, which is movable into and out of an installed position within a switchgear enclosure. The securing mechanism includes a mount coupled to the circuit breaker, and a movable assembly movably coupled to the mount and including an engagement member. The movable assembly moves among first and second positions corresponding to the circuit breaker not being fully installed within the switchgear enclosure and being disposed in the installed position, respectively. When the circuit breaker is moved toward the installed position, the engagement member engages the switchgear enclosure and moves the movable assembly toward the second position, in which the engagement member securely engages the switchgear enclosure to resist undesired movement of the circuit breaker with respect to the switchgear enclosure.
Abstract:
A policy engine generates configlets that are vendor-neutral, vendor-specific or both, based on a selected target level and a selected device/device group. A translator translates and combines the configlets to form vendor-dependent configuration files. The policy engine generates the configlets using policies associated with the selected target level and its sub-target levels, as defined by a target level hierarchy. A policy includes at least a condition, and an action which the policy engine performs if the condition is true. In performing the action, the policy engine typically writes to at least a partial configlet. A policy may further include a verification clause, which is used to verify a running configuration. Policy dependencies may also be defined such that where a second policy is dependent on a first policy, the second policy must be evaluated after the first policy. This is necessary, where, for example, the first policy generates and stores a value to be used by the second policy. Policies are small programs written as small programs. A configlet hierarchy is defined, such that a child configlet inherits properties which it does not define from its parent. A mapping function maps infrastructure data in a first format to a second format, so that the second format is recognizable by the policy engine. A loader batches, schedules and loads a configuration file to its intended device. Upon replacing a first device using a first configuration format with a second device using a second configuration format, the first device's configuration is read in or uploaded and reverse-translated into configlets. The configlets are then translated into a configuration formatted for the second device. The system retains device logins and passwords in encrypted format. A user desiring to connect to a device must log in to the system instead. The system in turn logs in or connects to the device and passes information back and forth between the user and the device, as if the user were logged directly into the device.
Abstract:
An apparatus for melting an electrically conductive metallic material includes a vacuum chamber and a hearth disposed in the vacuum chamber. At least one wire-discharge ion plasma electron emitter is disposed in or adjacent the vacuum chamber and is positioned to direct a wide-area field of electrons into the vacuum chamber, wherein the wide-area electron field has sufficient energy to heat the electrically conductive metallic material to its melting temperature. The apparatus may further include at least one of a mold and an atomizing apparatus which is in communication with the vacuum chamber and is positioned to receive molten material from the hearth.
Abstract:
A current-steering type digital-to-analog converter (DAC) is disclosed. The DAC includes a first sub-DAC, a second sub-DAC and a controlling device. Both the first sub-DAC and the second sub-DAC are configured to receive input signals. The controlling device selectively and periodically sends output signals of either the first sub-DAC or the second sub-DAC to a resistive load while sending output signals of the remaining one of the two sub-DACs to a dummy resistive load. An output of the DAC is provided at the resistive load.

Abstract:
Methods are provided for determining the surface fatty acid content in a wood pulp or whitewater sample. The methods comprise reacting free fatty acids which are present on the surface of the wood pulp fibers in the sample or in the whitewater with one or more reagents to form a measurable species, and determining the fatty acid content from the quantitative measurement of the measurable species. The method is useful as a quick, portable, accurate and low cost assay for assessing the fatty acid content present at various sample points in pulp and paper mills. The method for determining the free fatty acid content can be conducted in a batch process (e.g. where samples are collected periodically and the test is conducted offline). Alternatively, the method for determining the free fatty acid content can be conducted in a continuous or semi-continuous process (e.g., online sampling/analysis).
