Abstract: A method is provided for a portable computing device to read a reaction area on a test strip, which is located in a peripheral device placed over an image sensor and a light source of the portable computing device. Light is provided with the light source, which the peripheral device directs to the reaction area. An image including the reaction area is captured with the image sensor. An analyte characteristic is determined based on a color of the captured reaction area in the image.

Abstract: Example methods and systems for performing quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) are provided. One example system may include a first lighting subsystem and a second lighting subsystem. The first lighting subsystem includes a first light source configured to illuminate a qPCR testing solution including a sample, a fluorescence dye and a nanoparticle in a tube with a first light to increase a temperature of the qPCR testing solution. The second lighting subsystem includes a light detector configured to detect an amount of fluorescence emitted by the fluorescence dye in a first thermal cycle of the qPCR. The first lighting subsystem is configured to turn off the first light source for a period of time in any thermal cycle of the qPCR after the first thermal cycle based on one or more heat transmission parameters which are determined based on the amount of fluorescence.

Abstract: Example methods are provided to improve placement of an adaptor (210,220) to a mobile computing device (100) to measure a test strip (221) coupled to the adaptor (220) with a camera (104) and a screen (108) on a face of the mobile computing device (100). The method may include displaying a light area on a first portion of the screen (108). The first portion may be adjacent to the camera (104). The light area and the camera (104) may be aligned with a key area of the test strip (221) so that the camera (104) is configured to capture an image of the key area. The method may further include providing first guiding information for a user to place the adaptor (210,220) to the mobile computing device (100) according to a position of the light area on the screen (108).

The accessory (800) includes a test strip adapter (806), a phone adapter (802), and a coupler (804). The test strip adapter (806) includes a test strip attachment for a test strip type and a first interlock shared with other test strip adapters for other test strip types. The phone adapter (802) includes a phone attachment for a mobile device model and a second interlock shared with other phone adapters for other mobile device models. The coupler (804) includes a third interlock that forms a first mating pair with the first interlock of the test strip adapter (806), and a fourth interlock that forms a second mating pair with the second interlock of the phone adapter (802).
