Abstract: A photochromic article is provided, containing a structural component, a fluid in contact with the structural component, and a photochromic organic dye in contact with the fluid; and a barrier layer disposed on the structural component to provide a barrier for the fluid and photochromic organic dye. The structural component includes a polymeric material that is porous, includes a plurality of cavities, or a combination thereof. A method of changing a light transmission of a photochromic article is provided. A method of forming a photochromic article is also provided.

Abstract: A hybrid solar window comprises: at least one glazing; a wave-length-selective solar mirror positioned to reflect IR toward an IR absorbing element. The IR absorbing elements comprises a conduit having a respective fluid inlet and fluid outlet, and an IR absorbing compound, wherein the IR absorbing compound is in thermal communication with the conduit. The wavelength-selective solar mirror has an average visible light transmittance of at least 50 percent and an average IR reflectance of at least 50 percent over the wavelength range of 850 to 1150 nanometers, inclusive. The IR absorbing element is configured to transfer thermal energy to a heat transfer fluid circulating through the conduit, wherein the IR absorbing element has an average visible light transmittance of at least 30 percent, and wherein each IR absorbing element has an average IR absorptance of at least 50 percent over the wavelength range 850 to 1150 nanometers, inclusive. Certain IR absorbing elements are also disclosed.

Abstract: A composite comprising a polymeric matrix and EM absorbers dispersed within the polymeric matrix. Each EM absorber comprises a ceramic particle having a surface, and a magnetic coating on at least a portion of the surface of the ceramic particle. Abstract: Magnetizable abrasive particles are described comprising ceramic particles having outer surfaces comprising a coating of unsintered polyion and magnetic particles bonded to the polyion. In favored embodiments, the magnetic particles have a magnetic saturation of at least 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 or 50 emu/gram. In another embodiment, an abrasive article is described comprising a plurality of magnetizable abrasive particles as described herein retained in a binder material. Also described are method of making magnetizable abrasive particles and methods of making an abrasive article comprising magnetizable abrasive particles.
