Abstract:
A method of making an adhesive article comprises three steps. First, the method includes providing a liner having first and second opposed major surfaces with respective first and second silicone release layers disposed thereon. The second silicone release layer comprises a partially cured hydrosilation-crosslinkable silicone mixture comprises a first silicone polymer having at least three Si—H groups and second silicone polymer have at least two vinyl, and has an extractables content of 5 to 25 weight percent. Second, an adhesive layer is disposed onto the first silicone release layer. Third, the adhesive layer is exposed to E-beam radiation within a process chamber thereby providing a crosslinked adhesive layer. The second silicone release layer is exposed to oxygen during crosslinking of the adhesive layer. Adhesive articles made according to the method also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention is an assembly layer for a flexible device. The assembly layer is derived from precursors in eluding at least one of a physically cross-linked silicone elastomer and a covalently cross-linked silicone elastomer forming reagent mixture, and a MQ resin. Within a temperature range of between about −30 C to about 90 C, the assembly layer has a shear storage modulus at a frequency of 1 Hz that does not exceed about 2 MPa, a shear creep compliance (J) of at least about 6×10−6 1/Pa measured at 5 seconds with an applied shear stress between about 50 kPa and about 500 kPa, and a strain recovery of at least about 50% at at least one point of applied shear stress within the range of about 5 kPa to about 500 kPa within about 1 minute after removing the applied shear stress.
Abstract:
Photoactivated, precious metal catalysts in combination with condensation-cure silicone systems are described. Curable compositions including hydroxyl-functional polyorganosiloxanes, hydride-functional silanes, and a catalyst comprising a precious metal complexed with an actinic-radiation-displaceable ligand are described. Methods of curing such compositions and the resulting cured compositions are also discussed.
Abstract:
Silicone-free extruded release liner for acrylic adhesives that is stable at high temperatures, has advantageous surface energy characteristics, has minimal impact on adhesive performance, and has minimal environmental impact comprising a composition that includes a thermoplastic polymer and a fluoroadditive represented by the structure (I), wherein X is a meta-substituted or a para-substituted benzene ring and each n is independently a whole number from 0 to 3, inclusive. Methods of preparing the composition, the fluoroadditive, and the release liner.
Abstract:
Uncured aqueous composition comprising a blend of (a) a sulfonated polyester, (b) at least one of a self-crosslinking acrylic or a self-crosslinking polyurethane binder, and (c) melamine-formaldehyde crosslinker, wherein the uncured aqueous composition has a free-formaldehyde content not greater than 0.04 part per million formaldehyde as determined by the Formaldehyde Test, and cured composition thereof. Compositions described herein are useful, for example, for making primed film for release liners applications.
Abstract:
A pressure sensitive adhesive article is described comprising a pressure sensitive adhesive in contact with the release layer. The release layer comprises a thermoplastic polymer and a block copolymer additive having the general structure: A[LB]n wherein A is a polyorganosiloxane block, L is a covalent bond or a divalent linking group B is independently a C16-C70 alkyl group, and n is at least 1. In other embodiments, compositions are described comprising a thermoplastic polymer the described block copolymer additive; as well as methods of making a release composition.
Abstract:
Uncured aqueous composition comprising surfactant and a blend of (a) a first sulfonated polyester having a glass transition temperature not greater than 75° C. that is not sulfonated polyethylene naphthalate, (b) a second, sulfonated polyester that is a sulfonated polyethylene naphthalate, (c) melamine-formaldehyde crosslinker, and (d) an epoxy silane coupling agent; and cured composition thereof. Compositions described herein are useful, for example, for making primed film for release liners applications.
Abstract:
A coextruded ribbon. The coextruded ribbon includes a first layer and an opposed second layer. The first layer includes a first side optionally having an adhesive thereon. The first layer further includes an opposed second side having a plurality of protrusions extending therefrom. The second layer includes a repellant material contacting the plurality of protrusions.
