Abstract: Described herein are fluoropolymer compositions comprising a compound of Formula I wherein X1 is selected from O or S; L is a divalent linking group comprising at least one aromatic ring; and X2 is selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl group, an amino group, a thiol group, and a nitrile group. In one embodiment, the phthalonitrile-containing compound is used to crosslink a dehydrohalogenated polymer, and optionally with a polyhydroxy curative. In another embodiment, the phthalonitrile-containing compound is added to a composition comprising (i) a fluorinated elastomeric gum, wherein the fluorinated elastomeric gum comprises a fluoropolymer having a cure-site and (ii) a peroxide curing system.

Abstract: Described herein are fluoropolymer compositions comprising a bis phthalonitrile-containing compound. In one embodiment, the bis phthalonitrile-containing compound is used to crosslink a dehydrohalogenated polymer, and optionally with a polyhydroxy curative. In another embodiment, the bis phthalonitrile-containing compound is added to a composition comprising (i) a fluorinated elastomeric gum, wherein the fluorinated elastomeric gum comprises a fluoropolymer having a cure-site and (ii) a peroxide curing system.

Abstract: Fluoroelastomers containing at least 25 weight percent perfluorinated thermoplastic fillers are described. The perfluorinated thermoplastic fillers comprise a first perfluorinated thermoplastic filler having a first d50 particle size of 10 to 250 nanometers. and a second perfluorinated thermoplastic filler having a second d50 particle size of 5 to 500 micrometers. The first thermoplastic filler may be obtained from a latex while the second thermoplastic filler may be obtained as a dry powder. Methods of making such materials and cured articles prepared from them are also described.

Abstract: The composition can include a fluoropolymer and a branched silsesquioxane polymer having terminal —Si(R3)3 groups and units having formula, in which * represents a bond to another silicon atom in the branched silsesquioxane polymer, R is an organic group comprising an aliphatic carbon-carbon double bond, and R3 is a non-hydrolyzable group or hydrogen. The fluoropolymer can be crosslinked with the branched silsesquioxane polymer. An article can include a first composition including a fluoropolymer in contact with a second composition including a silicone, wherein at least one of the first composition or second composition includes the branched silsesquioxane polymer. At least one of the fluoropolymer or the silicone can be crosslinked with a branched silsesquioxane polymer including terminal —Si(R3)3 groups and units having formula, in which R* is an organic group comprising a carbon-carbon bond between the branched silsesquioxane polymer and the fluoropolymer, the silicone, or another R* group.

Abstract: Described herein is a functionalized oligomeric compound, which can be polymerized into a peroxide curable highly fluorinated polymer. The functionalized oligomeric compound is at least one of a monofunctional compound of formula (I) R-L-X having a number average molecular weight of 1000-16,000 g/mol; or a difunctional compound of formula (II) is R1-(L-X1)2 having a number average molecular weight of 1000-6000 g/mol; where: X comprises at least one of: —CH═CH2, —CH2CH═CH2, —OCH═CH2, —OCH2CH═CH2, —OCH2C(CH3)═CH2, —C(CH3)═CH2, and —OCF═CF2; X1 comprises at least one of: —CH═CH2, —CH2CH═CH2, —OCH═CH2, —OCH2CH═CH2, —OCH2C(CH3)═CH2, and —C(CH3)═CH2; L comprises at least one of a bond, —CH2OC(═O)—, —CH2OC(═O)NHCH2CH2OC(═O)—, and —C(═O)NHCH2CH2OC(═O)—; R is a monovalent perfluoro polyether alkyl group; and R1 is a divalent perfluoro polyether alkylene group. Such functionalized oligomeric compounds may be used as improve the processability of highly fluorinated polymers and may improve the physical properties of the resulting cured fluoropolymer.
