Abstract: A double-stator PM machine having: an outer stator generating an outer electromagnetic field dependent on an outer three-phase supply current; an inner stator generating an inner electromagnetic field dependent on an inner three-phase supply current; a PM rotor rotated by the outer and inner electromagnetic fields between the outer and inner stators; and a control arrangement controlling the outer and inner supply currents. There is an electrical connection between neutral points of the outer and inner stators. The control arrangement is configured for controlling the outer and inner supply currents such that there is a relative angle shift of 30° between the outer and inner supply currents and such that a third order current harmonic component is circulated between the outer and inner stators.

Abstract: A method of determining the cooling efficiency of an electric motor having a stator provided with stator windings, the method including: a) injecting a current into the stator windings to heat the stator windings, b) obtaining a temperature drop in the stator windings after the current injection in step a) has been terminated or the injected current has been decreased, c) comparing the temperature drop with a reference temperature drop, and d) concluding, based on the comparison, whether the cooling efficiency of the electric motor has deteriorated or not.

Abstract: A method of updating a thermal model describing the thermal behaviour of an electric motor having a stator provided with stator windings, the method including: a) injecting a current into the stator windings to heat the stator windings, b) obtaining temperature measurements over time from each of a plurality of temperature sensors distributed in the electric motor while step a) is being performed and the stator windings are heating up, or after step a) has been terminated or the current has been decreased, and the electric motor is cooling down, and c) updating parameter values of the thermal model based on the temperature measurements.

Abstract: A method of controlling a 3n-phase electrical machine (7) by means of n power converters (3a, 3b) each being controlled by a respective controller, and each power converter (3a, 3b) being configured to power a respective set of three phases of the electrical machine (7), wherein the method for each controller comprises: a) obtaining measured currents (ia,1, ib,1, ic,1, ia,2, ib,2, ic,2) of the set of three phases of the electrical machine (7) controlled by the controller, b) estimating all currents ({circumflex over (ι)}dq, 2, {circumflex over (ι)}dq, 1) of all the other sets of three phases of the electrical machine (7), which are controlled by the other controllers, c) transforming the measured currents (ia,1, ib,1, ic,1, ia,2, ib,2, ic,2) and all the estimated currents ({circumflex over (ι)}dq,2, {circumflex over (ι)}dq,1) using vector space decomposition, VSD, to obtain a set of VSD currents, and d) controlling the corresponding power converter based on the VSD currents.

Abstract: A method of controlling a multi-phase electrical machine by means of a power converter, wherein the method includes: a) controlling the electrical machine by utilizing vector space decomposition, VSD, wherein the controlling involves releasing control of the current of a harmonic while maintaining control of the current of the fundamental, b) measuring phase currents of the electrical machine while the control of the current of the harmonic is released, c) transforming the current measurements using VSD to obtain a current signature of the harmonic, and d) determining whether a fault is present in the electrical machine or the power converter based on a comparison of the current signature with a reference current signature of the harmonic.
