    Abstract: According to some embodiments, an electronic device can include a processor and a haptic feedback system. The haptic feedback system can include a mass that is coupled to a magnetic element and variable magnetic elements capable of establishing a magnetic field in communication with the magnetic element that varies in accordance with the processor receiving a signal that indicates that a touch event is detected at a touch sensitive layer, where the magnetic field causes displacement of the magnetic element. The haptic feedback system can further include a magnetic field sensor in communication with the processor, where the magnetic field sensor is capable of (i) detecting a change in the magnetic field that is induced by the displacement of the magnetic element, and (ii) providing a detection signal to the processor that corresponds to a current position of the mass that is coupled to the magnetic element.

    Abstract: An electronic device having an assembly is disclosed. The assembly is designed to regulate fluid flow into the electronic device. The assembly may include a membrane having air-permeable and liquid-resistant properties. In other to protect the membrane, the assembly includes a support member and a compressible membrane. Also, the assembly may further include a first housing member and a second housing member that combine to surround the membrane. Each feature of the assembly may include an opening to allow air to pass the assembly. When disposed in an opening of the electronic device, the assembly allows the device to receive air that is used by an operational component in the electronic device. The assembly protects the operational component from liquid ingress while allowing the operational component to communicate with the environment external to the device. The operation component may include a microphone, an audio speaker, or a pressure sensor.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for forming button assemblies for electronic devices are disclosed. According to some embodiments, the button assemblies include one or more sound improvement features to improve the sound that the button assemblies make when pressed by users of the electronic devices. According to some embodiments, the button assemblies include shims that provide proper alignment of the various components of the button assemblies and to accommodate any tolerance stack up of the various components of the button assemblies. The shims can include alignment features to prevent the shims from shifting within the button assemblies. According to some embodiments, thicknesses of the shims are customized to accommodate varying tolerance stack ups of the components of the button assemblies. In some embodiments, the button assemblies include a combination of sound improvement features and shims.

The haptic engine may include a first body component defining a first side of the haptic engine and including a first spring flexure and a first end element molded over a portion of the first spring flexure, a second body component defining a second side of the haptic engine opposite the first side and including a second spring flexure and a second end element molded over a portion of the second spring flexure, a movable mass component coupled to the first spring flexure and the second spring flexure, and a coil configured to induce a linear movement of the movable mass component in response to the actuation signal thereby producing a haptic output.
