Abstract:
The present invention is directed to immortalized STAT1-deficient mammalian cell lines. STAT1 is a signal transducer and activator of transcription that becomes phosphorylated when cells are treated with type I or type II interferons and leads to induction of specific gene expression, resulting in establishment of the antiviral state and the other known biological responses to interferons, including the inhibition of cell proliferation. Cells which lack this gene product are useful for producing high titers of viral stocks, for producing recombinant viral vectors, for testing samples, especially clinical samples for the presence of virus and for screening candidate compounds or drugs for anti-viral activity.
Abstract:
The invention provides a dry, disposable, polymeric product having sustained-release anti-microbial activity, the product consisting essentially of a polymeric material selected from the group consisting of fibers, fabrics, sheets, films and other stable woven, non-woven and knitted materials prepared from natural, man-made and synthetic polymers and an amine salt anti-microbial agent, the anti-microbial agent being incorporated in the polymeric material without an intermediary adhesive, carrier or linking agent and being releasable therefrom in anti-microbially effective amounts for a period of at least three days upon the product being brought into contact with a moist surface.
Abstract:
The system and methods described herein provide a way for writers and publishers to stand behind individual and combined facts in their work by offering a bounty to a person who can supersede their own data in support of the fact's accuracy with better data, as measured by a pre-established fact evaluation guideline. Once sufficiently vetted by this system, facts are added to an apolitical certified fact database. Facts in the certified fact database also have a bounty upon their accuracy, however financial responsibility for the bounty is transferred to the system. Subscribers to the system may then download and use fact contained within the certified fact database to enhance their own work, while benefiting from the enhanced readership, interest and. trustworthiness provided by virtue of the bounty.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are bi-spring surgical hammer impact tools and methods of use thereof. The bi-spring surgical hammer impact tools can include an elongated drive rod disposed in the housing and including an impact flange in a mid-region thereof. A tool implement can be mounted to a first end of the elongated drive rod. An impact shuttle can be mounted on the elongated drive rod and can include first and second impact surfaces opposing opposite faces of the impact flange. A plurality of annular teeth can be defined by an exterior surface of the impact shuttle. First and second springs can be disposed against opposite ends of the impact shuttle. A partial tooth pinion attached to a drive shaft and movable for engagement with the plurality of annular teeth of the impact shuttle can be included.
Abstract:
A fishing rig storage device that is removably insertable into a receiving slot incorporated in at least one of a dividing wall or an interior surface of a tackle container is illustrated and described. The fishing rig storage device includes a mounting tab having quartered sections and a plurality of notches formed along a perimeter. Each quartered section includes at least one of the plurality of notches. A fishing rig having a hook assembly, a line, and a tail is secured to the mounting tab by securing the hook assembly to a first notch, selectively wrapping the line around the plurality of notches, and securing the tail to a slit extending from the perimeter. The line is preferably arranged around the mounting tab to minimize catching or snagging of the line on the hook assembly when the line is unwrapped from the mounting tab.
Abstract:
The invention comprises devices and methods for providing operational power to a solar-powered irrigation control system. In one aspect, a method includes producing electrical energy from light, storing the electrical energy in a capacitive module, and operating an irrigation controller using the stored electrical energy independent of another power source. In another aspect, a device includes a control system comprising a computer having a programmed irrigation schedule which operates at least one irrigation device, a photovoltaic power module, and a capacitive module connected to said photovoltaic power module to store the electrical energy provided by the photovoltaic power module, where the capacitive module provides power for the control system to operate the at least one irrigation device independent of another power source.
Abstract:
A system for evaluating the leak tightness of a connector, or multiple connectors. The system uses an administrative server having a library of pressure and temperature information on various connectors, as well as the ability to report pressure and temperature data to a network as uncorrected and corrected responses. The system uses a data logger for recording pressure and temperature readings and also reporting corrected and uncorrected responses using one or more equations to shorten the test time by at least 50 percent or to about 5 minutes or less. The system uses a test pump for applying pressure to a connector to generate a corrected pressure which indicates leaks when the corrected pressure changes.
Abstract:
A method of energizing a high pressure tube connector for a well comprising a tube; a first connector assembly comprising: a female profile disposed over the tube and a first ferrule disposed over the tube adjacent the female profile; a second connector assembly comprising: an inverted jam nut disposed over the tube and a second ferrule disposed over the tube adjacent the inverted jam nut, wherein the second ferrule extends along the tube in a direction opposite the first ferrule; a nipple comprising a test port, wherein the nipple is disposed over the tube between the first ferrule and the second ferrule; a primary seal formed by compressing the first ferrule into the female profile using a pressure from the test port; and a secondary seal formed by compressing the second ferrule into the inverted jam nut using the pressure from the test port.
Abstract:
A system, a method and device for controlling speed of a moving vehicle, using portable and repositionable global positioning devices, speed limit processors, and a database of legal vehicle speed limits is in communication with the speed limit processor. Computer instructions instruct the speed limit processor to match the current location of the moving vehicle with a legal vehicle speed limit for a defined location using the database. The speed limit processor communicates the legal vehicle speed limit to the vehicle processor to control the speed of the moving vehicle.
