Abstract: The method uses a device which measures the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) present in headspaces of fluid samples to differentiate between authentic and synthetic urine samples. The method includes the use of a device which includes an array of resistive microchemical sensors. The device may be exposed to samples of synthetic and authentic urine to identify a pattern of VOCs in each, these steps being referred to herein as training the device. The device may then be exposed to a urine sample of unknown authenticity and a pattern of VOCs identified. The pattern of VOCs from the urine sample of unknown authenticity may be compared to those of synthetic and authentic urine. In some embodiments the device is installed in a toilet. The method may be used to identify a false sample provided for a urine analysis intended to screen for use of illicit drugs.

Abstract: The health monitoring toilet system includes an extendable, retractable, and rotatable wand with sensors on the head section. The sensors may include a variety of cameras and gas sensors for inspecting a user's urogenital, perineal, and anal region for health assessment. The wand may comprise a bidet wand. The bidet wand may also dispense cleansing and therapeutic substances. The toilet system may include a controller which may store the sensor readings as well as protocols for moving the wand to acquire optimal sensor readings. The controller may be accessible by a healthcare provider for diagnostic and treatment purposes. The toilet system may identify each user to store sensor reading acquired for different users in the controller.

Abstract: An apparatus for installing a window covering is disclosed. A rotational cam member is provided for extending a first piston on one side of a headrail and compressing a second piston on the opposite side of the headrail between a window casing. A lever arm is provided for rotating the rotational cam. Easy installation of a window covering headrail may be achieved as one arm is used to hold the headrail while the other hand is able to actuated the lever arm. Mounting brackets are provided for easy window covering removal after installation.

Abstract: The system includes a headrail, which includes a motor, a gearbox, and one or more tiltable slats. At least one slat includes sliding tracks. The system further includes one or more PV cells movably disposed within the sliding tracks. The PV cells slide in move along the tracks with regard to an amount of sunlight incident on the cells. Methods of operating a solar powered window covering are also disclosed. The methods generally include detecting a tilt of at least one window covering slat. The slat includes one or more PV cells disposed in sliding tracks in the slat, and the tilt indicates an amount of sunlight incident on the cells. The methods also include sliding the PV cells in the tracks with regard to the amount of sunlight incident on the cells.

Abstract: A hydronic panel and system for heating and/or cooling a room is disclosed. The hydronic panel includes a plurality of contiguous channels. A first chamber is located at a first end, preferably the upper end, of the panel and includes an inlet and communicates with a first subset of the channels. A second chamber is located at an opposite end of the panel and communicates with the first subset and also with a second subset of the channels. A third chamber is located at the first end of the panel, the third chamber communicates with the second subset of the channels and includes an outlet. In this configuration, heated or cooled water flows from the inlet into the first chamber, through the first subset of the channels, to the second chamber, through the second subset of the channels, into the third chamber and out the outlet. Consequently, the heated or cooled water can heat or cool the space. In addition to at least one hydronic panel, the system includes a source of heated and/or cooled water under sufficient pressure to cause the water to flow through the panel. The system also includes a controller to control one or both of the temperature of the water and the flow rate of the water through the panel.

Abstract: We disclose a cordless window blind that includes at least one electromagnet within each slat. The slats may be inserted into orifices within rotatable slat mounting members on a vertical guide rail assembly. The orifices may house electrical connections which connect the electromagnets to at least one battery. The electromagnets may have the same polarity such that the electromagnet of one slat attracts the electromagnet of an adjacent slat. The magnetic attraction may move one slat toward the other slat causing the slats to move vertically along the guide rail assembly and either raise or lower the blinds. Alternatively, electromagnets on only one of two longitudinal edges of the slats may be actuated and attract a metal member on an adjacent slat. The magnetic attraction may cause the slats to tilt and rotate within the slat mounting members thus closing the blinds.

Abstract: A gear-shifting device is disclosed. The device comprises a first motor having a first rotor. The first rotor turns clockwise and counter-clockwise, creating a wobbling action. The device further comprises a compound planetary transmission, comprising a transmission ring attached to a ring gear. The compound planetary transmission receives power from the first rotor. The device further comprises a second motor having a second rotor. The second rotor turns clockwise and counter-clockwise. The device further comprises a shift assembly, comprising a drum, a cap, and a pinion gear. The pinion gear receives power from the second rotor. The drum locks with the pinion gear such that the drum rotates with the pinion gear. The transmission ring is attached to the drum, such that the transmission ring moves laterally as the drum rotates. The ring gear locks and unlocks with the cap as the drum rotates. The wobbling action enables the locking.

Abstract: The invention is a silent chain with a profile capable of corresponding with the profiles of both sprockets and racks. The purpose of the invention is to convert rotational motion to linear motion in a way that is superior to the traditional rack and pinion device by allowing for more surface area contact with the rack through the use of, rather than a pinion, a silent chain that is capable of engaging with a rack. The invented silent chain comprises link plates of a particular shape stacked in alternating rows and joined together by connecting pins in such a way as to be bendable. The link plates are shaped such that the teeth of the link plates are offset when the chain is straightened, which allows the profile of the silent chain to correspond with the profiles of both sprockets and racks.
