Abstract: A composite structure suitable for making transdermal delivery devices includes in sequence: (a) a liner film layer; (b) a containment layer having from zero to 15 wt % content of vinyl acetate repeating units, the layer including either a thermal bonding copolyester resin or a combination of an ethylene-vinyl acetate component and a nonpolar polymer; and (c) a polyester film layer less than 20 μm in thickness. A drug layer lies either between the liner film layer and the containment layer or within a concave depression in the containment layer. A composition including an ethylene-vinyl acetate component and an ABA block copolymer, wherein the A segments of the block copolymer are styrenic segments, is also provided. The composition includes between 1 and 15 wt % of vinyl acetate repeating units, based on the total weight of composition exclusive of any solvents.

Abstract: A heat-sealable, composite film comprising a polymeric substrate layer having a first and second surface, a primer layer disposed on the first surface of the substrate layer, and a heat-sealable polymeric layer disposed on the primer layer, wherein (i) the polymeric material of the primer layer comprises poly(vinylidene chloride)(PVdC); (ii) the thickness of the primer layer is in the range 0.01 to 6 μm; (iii) the heat-sealable polymeric layer comprises a copolymer comprising repeating monomeric units of ethylene [—CH2CH2—] and one or more types of repeating monomeric units derived from acrylic acid, methacrylic acid and vinyl acetate having the formula [—CH2C(R1)(X)—] wherein: X is selected from —COOR2 and —OC(O)CH3; R1=H or methyl; and R2 is selected from H, C1-10 alkyl and a counterion M; and (iv) the thickness of the heat-sealable layer is 25 μm or less, methods of manufacture of the same, use of said film as a packaging material for sealing a container and use of a PVdC primer layer in a heat-sealable, peelable composite polymeric film.

Abstract: A method treats an article and more specifically an aircraft surface in order to prevent icing and to provide a coating that emits very low volatile organic compounds (VOC) during application and setting. Icing on critical aircraft surfaces creates dangerous conditions that impair the stability of the aircraft. The specific areas are referred to as “cold-soak” conditions and some areas on the “leading edges” of the wings. The invention eliminates icing on these surfaces. Ice will not form on the surface of certain polymer coatings with low surface energy such as Teflon. This is a consequence of the high contact angle between the water droplet and the surface that establishes a non-wetting surface. The invention implements such coatings and a deposition process. The coating may be used for other objects such as automobiles, consumer products, such as refrigerators, stoves, etc.
