Abstract:
Methods and systems for indirectly converting energy from the wave motion of water into electrical energy. The methods and systems use energy in water waves to pump fluid to an elevated water supply tank. The fluid is then released and flows by gravity to a fluid turbine/generator unit at a lower elevation, causing the turbine to spin and thereby drive the generator to produce electricity. Upon departing the water turbine/generator unit, the water is returned to, and feeds into, a water supply tank at a lower level. In one embodiment, the methods and systems use a pivot-type water pumping unit to capture and convert the energy of water waves. In another embodiment, the methods and systems use a slider-type water pumping unit to capture and convert the energy of water waves.
Abstract:
The invention relates to display and protective articles having a fluorochemical surface layer, and methods of making such articles. The invention also relates to fluoropolyether acrylate compositions.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a treatment for sepsis comprising an intravenous solution or pill that contains creatine phosphate and is devoid of carbohydrates. The intravenous solution can be used as a common carrier for antibiotics used to treat the septic condition. Because bacteria cannot utilize creatine phosphate to generate ATP, the creatine phosphate in the solution or pill provides an energy source for the patient but not the bacteria. The present invention avoids the problem of standard glucose solutions, which provide a ready nutritional source for the infecting bacteria.
Abstract:
Several primitives form the minute essence of services, which are organizational primitives of decentralized operating systems. These primitives include a designation primitive, which comprises a port, such as the ports identifiable by the URI; a behavioral primitive, which comprises the unilateral contract; and a communication primitive, which includes a set of message types known by all services for exchanging messages in accordance with unilateral contracts.
Abstract:
Compounds having two reactive functional groups are described that can be used to provide a connector group between a substrate and an amine-containing material. The first reactive functional group can be used to provide attachment to a surface of a substrate. The second reactive functional group is a N-sulfonylaminocarbonyl group that can be reacted with an amine-containing material, particularly a primary aliphatic amine, to form a carbonylimino-containing connector group. The invention also provides articles and methods for immobilizing amine-containing materials to a substrate.
Abstract:
A utility computing portal supports public and private modules for application development in a cloud computing environment. The public modules support downloads, customer support and access to a development community. The private modules are accessible to users with valid login credentials or those authenticated via a related entity, such as a Live ID. The private modules may include modules for testing, analysis, and billing. The utility computing portal also supports access to application configuration, for example, allowing a manager to change the number of front end and backend physical/virtual machines available to various application roles.
Abstract:
Computer-readable media, computer systems, and computing devices for providing customer intelligence data to a developer of an application that runs on a cloud operating environment associated with an online services provider. The online services provider collects customer information about customers, each of whom is identified by a customer ID. A developer uploads an application, having a corresponding application ID, and manages the application using resources associated with the cloud operating environment. An analysis module creates a three-way mapping between the application ID, customer IDs corresponding to customers that use the application, and customer intelligence data associated with the customer IDs. Using this mapping, the system presents the developer with customer intelligence information based on the customer intelligence data.

Abstract:
A low refractive index composition that forms a low refractive index layer on an optical display is formed having a co-crosslinked interpenetrating polymer network of a fluoropolymer phase and an acrylate phase. The fluoropolymer phase is preferably formed from fluoropolymers based on THV or FKM and having either a degree of unsaturation and/or containing a reactive cure site monomer in its polymer backbone. The acrylate phase includes a multifunctional acrylate crosslinker, and more preferably includes a perfluoropolyether acrylate crosslinker. The formed low refractive index layer has improved interfacial adhesion to other layers or substrates contained in the optical display. Further, the mechanical strength and scratch resistance of the either of above low refractive index compositions can be further enhanced through the incorporation of surface functionalized inorganic particle into the formed layer.

Compounds having two reactive functional groups are described that can be used as a tethering compound to immobilize an amine-containing material to a substrate. The first reactive functional group can be used to provide attachment to a surface of a substrate. The second reactive functional group is a N-sulfonyldicarboximide group that can be reacted with an amine-containing material, particularly a primary aliphatic amine, to form a connector group between the substrate and the amine-containing material. The invention also provides articles and methods for immobilizing amine-containing materials to a substrate.
