Abstract: An object is to construct a storage system with a configuration with a high degree of freedom while ensuring a certain fault tolerance. The storage system includes a plurality of nodes that process an I/O processing request of data. The node has a storage device and a processor that performs the I/O processing on the storage device. The processor constitutes a data redundancy configuration in which data stored in different storage devices is combined as a data set. A management unit for managing the storage system performs a fault tolerance calculation of calculating fault tolerance information for a failure of each component by using component information that is information of a component including at least the and the storage device, and by using data redundancy configuration information related to the data redundancy configuration, and determines a data arrangement by applying the data redundancy configuration related to the calculated fault tolerance information.

Abstract: A computer system includes a primary site having a primary volume, and having an instance that performs data processing related to input/output data, and a secondary site having a secondary volume, and having an instance. Remote copy is set up between the primary and secondary volumes, and the instance of the primary site transfers data input to or outputted from the primary volume to the secondary site, while the instance of the secondary site stores the transferred data in the secondary volume. The computer system further includes a specifications changing section that changes specifications of the instance of the secondary site when a failover switching process of switching a performer of the data processing from the primary to secondary site is performed, or when a failback switching process of switching the performer of the data processing from the secondary to primary site after the failover switching process is performed.

In collecting a free area of the memory, the storage controller executes a base image saving method of writing in the storage device in units of storage areas having a plurality of logs and collecting a free area, and a garbage collection method of writing in the storage device in units of logs and collecting a free area.

Abstract: A storage system includes one or more storage units, and a calculator. Each of the one or more storage units has plural physical storage devices, and a processor. The calculator has a controller that processes data inputted to and outputted from the storage unit by the processor. The storage system subjects the data to redundancy and stores the redundant data, and when a failure in which the data related to a read request cannot be read from one of the physical storage devices has occurred, reads the data from the readable physical storage device, recovers the data related to the read request, and transmits the recovered data to a request source of the read request. A process for recovering the data related to the read request from the read data can be selectively executed by the controller of the calculator and the processor of the storage unit.
