Abstract:
A method for reducing the total concentration of barium in a source of ground water, such that the water can safely be returned to the watershed or used for drinking water, is described. The present method includes extracting the water from a source thereof, and contacting the water with an effective amount of sulfuric acid. The method has the additional benefits that it simultaneously reduces the pH of the water as well as reducing the concentration of bicarbonate ions. An example of water often having total barium concentrations too high for release into the watershed, includes water extracted during coal-bed methane production.
Abstract:
Indicia are formed on the outside surface of drip irrigation tape by deforming the strip of flexible material when it is in a semi-molten state and cooling the strip while it is deformed. The indicia may include alphanumeric characters, logos or symbols that convey information. Indicia forming features in the surface of a shaping drum mold the strip of semi-molten material as the semi-molten material cures to form a flexible strip. The flexible strip is folded and sealed to form the drip irrigation tape.

A drip irrigation tape is formed from a strip of flexible material having a series of spaced indented grooves of serpentine shape extending along one side edge, the strip being folded with its opposite side edges overlapping and sealed together on opposite sides of the grooves to form a main conduit within the folded strip and a series of secondary conduits along the grooves. Breaks in the seal form inlets between the main conduit and each secondary conduit, and raised outlet ports connect the secondary conduit to the exterior of the tape. The grooves each have a series of elongated chambers offset alternately on opposite sides of the grooved region and interconnected by orifices of smaller dimensions than the chambers.

A single piece pulsed flow wing assembly method providing for horizontal wing manufacture is accomplished using synchronized automated vehicles guided in a predetermined manner to move and, locate wing structure in a plurality of assembly positions. Multi-axis assembly positioning systems (MAPS) are used at each assembly position to support and index components in the wing structure and determinant assembly techniques are used for indexing of the components. Modular automated manufacturing processes employing magnetic assembly clamping, drilling, fastener insertion, and sealant application are employed.

The present invention provides a brake heat reducing system for reducing the temperature of brake components in vehicles, the brake heat reducing system cooperating with the braking system of the vehicle and having a control device having an accelerometer that is energized in response to vehicular braking and a timer relay. A modulating device has a solenoid valve connected to the timer relay and is activated by the control device in response to vehicular braking for modulating braking pressure during occurrence of vehicular braking.

A drip irrigation tape consists of a strip of flexible material having an elongated, indented channel formed along a first side edge, the channel being of serpentine configuration, the strip being folded lengthwise so that the side edges overlap to form a first conduit, and the opposite side edges being joined together at least along spaced seal lines along opposite edges of the channel to define a secondary conduit. Inlets and outlets are provided along the length of the channel. A method for manufacturing the tape includes the steps of forming the indented channel on a mandrel before sealing the overlapping edges of the strip together by heat sealing or ultrasonic welding.

An apparatus is disclosed for fabricating drip irrigation tape from a water impervious polyethelene film. A shaping assembly with a water-cooled vacuum drum preforms a groove along one edge, a folding device folds the strip lengthwise to form a first conduit, and a sealing assembly with an electrically-heated heat sealing wheel joins the edges along opposite sides of the groove to form a seam in which the groove defines a secondary conduit that is resistant to deformation. Flat spots on a pair of outwardly-extending annular ribs around the circumference of the heat sealing wheel produce breaks in the seam for inlet ports and outlet ports.
