Abstract:
An HDLC accelerator includes a deframer and framer to respectively accelerate the deframing and framing processes for PPP packets. The deframer includes an input interface unit, a detection unit, a conversion unit, and an output interface unit. The input interface unit receives a packet of data to be deframed. The detection unit evaluates each data byte to detect for special bytes (e.g., flag, escape, and invalid bytes). The conversion unit deframes the received data by removing flag and escape bytes, “un-escaping” the data byte following each escape byte, providing a header word for each flag byte, and checking each deframed packet based on a frame check sequence (FCS) value associated with the packet. The output interface unit provides deframed data and may further perform byte alignment in providing the deframed data. A state control unit provides control signals indicative of specific tasks to be performed for deframing.
Abstract:
A rough road detection system includes an engine speed module, a feature space module, a normalization module, and a rough road module. The engine speed module generates an engine speed signal based on a crank signal. The feature space module generates a feature space signal based on the engine speed signal. The normalization module generates a normalized signal. The normalized signal is based on the feature space signal and a normalization value that varies in accordance with the engine speed signal. The rough road module determines whether a rough road condition exists based on the normalized signal.
Abstract:
A knock detection module for an engine comprises a statistics storage module and a processing module. The statistics storage module stores M times N vibration profiles corresponding to M zones of operation of the engine and N cylinders of the engine, wherein M and N are integers greater than one. The processing module determines in which one of the M zones the engine is operating and determines whether knock has occurred for one of the N cylinders by comparing measured vibration data with a selected one of the vibration profiles corresponding to the one of the M zones and the one of the N cylinders.
Abstract:
A digital signal processor uses a variable length instruction set. The variable length instructions may be stored in adjacent locations within memory space. The beginning and ending of instructions may, but are not required to, occur across memory word boundaries. Preferably, the variable length instructions contain variable numbers of instruction fragments. Each instruction fragment causes a particular operation (or operations) to be performed, thereby allowing multiple operations to be performed during each clock cycle. This reduces the total number of clock cycles necessary to perform a task.

Abstract:
A tooth profile for a tooth of a high contact ratio spur gear, the tooth having an active profile, a root, and a tip, the active profile having a start adjacent to the root and having an end adjacent to the tip, includes a base tooth profile extending from the start of the active profile to an operating pitch area of the high contact ratio spur gear; and a modified base tooth profile, the modified base tooth profile being the base tooth profile modified by a profile relief curve, the modified base tooth profile extending from the operating pitch area to the end of the active profile, thereby yielding a long profile modification.

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to multi-element antennas that include, for each adjacent pair of antenna elements, at least one switch arranged to selectively connect that pair to thereby selectively alter an antenna dimension. Accordingly, a multi-element antenna can be configured to enhance its gain at different operational frequencies while a corresponding impedance matching network can enhance the impedance match (i.e., reduce reflected signal energy) between the antenna and a corresponding system (e.g., a transceiver system). The antenna and system can thus be effectively tuned across a wide operational band. The antenna and impedance matching network are configured with switch command signals and match command signals that are provided in response to each of a plurality of frequency codes.
Abstract:
The invention provides a lubricity additive in the form of an ester of an acid and an alcohol, wherein the acid is an aromatic mono-, di- or polyhydric, mono-, di- or polycarboxylic acid or mixture thereof, which may be alkylated and/or alkoxylated and wherein the alkyl and/or alkoxy groups, if any, are independently selected from groups having from 1 to 30 carbon atoms, characterised in that (a) the alcohol is glycerol, and (b) the mole percent of acid groups in the lubricity additive is less than 10%, based on the total of acid and ester groups. The invention also provides a process for preparing the lubricity additive, and a middle distillate fuel oil having a sulphur concentration of 0.2% by weight or less, and a minor portion of the lubricity additive.
Abstract:
A method for displaying grey-scale images at a desired grey scale resolution up to the visible limit on a display having a matrix of pixels, includes the steps of: defining a plurality of control matrices, each of said control matrices having a size and equal to the desired grey scale resolution of the display, each position in each of said control matrices corresponding to a specific pixel of said display; defining a super matrix, each position in said super matrix corresponding to one of said plurality of control matrices and having an assigned number in a range equal to the desired grey scale resolution; turning on a selected number of pixels within each of said control matrices based upon the grey scale value of the pixel, the orientation of the pixels turned on based on the value of a circular queue of size equal to said desired gray scale resolution; and adjusting the starting value of said circular queue for each of said control matrices based upon the number contained in the position of the super matrix corresponding to each control matrix and the gray scale value of the incoming pixel.
