Abstract:
A system for purifying water includes flowing the water through a closed path, supporting a bacteria culture in the path of water disposed transversely thereto, and aerating the water in the path upstream of the bacteria culture to enable it to purify the water. In one form of the invention, the water being purified may be flowing through an aquarium for containing fish and/or other aquatic life. In another form of the invention, the water being purified may be flowing through a fish pond or swimming pool.
Abstract:
A control device such as a tablet computer presents a scrollable image-based program guide (IBPG) on a display that a user can swipe to cause the device to command a display device to present an audio video (AV) program represented by the image. The IBPG is a subset of an electronic program guide (EPG) from a TV signal provider and is populated using user history and favorites information and social networking site history and favorites information. Sizes of the images may vary depending on the information.
Abstract:
A targeted delivery of content and related metadata is made to users of various types of electronic devices that are adapted to render or play the content. Images of each user are captured at various times while various items of the content are being played. According to one embodiment the images are processed via one or more facial recognition algorithms so that the identity of each of the users, including their names, is determined. This data is stored in a central server thereby establishing a database of profiles of these users. The profiles are comprised of tracking information of content played by each of the users on a per-content basis. The central server either uses this tracking information directly or transmits it to another server or another business entity, such as for example another content provider, for use by the other business entity.
Abstract:
Removable decorative wheel covers for covering central wheel portions on wheels on various types of moving vehicles from automobiles to buses to trucks. The covers have perforated patterns of circles, rectangles, and the like, that can be punched out as needed to allow different sized wheel protrusions such as valve stems, central raised hub members, and the like to pass therethrough. The perforations can include a single closed pattern that allows a single opening to be created. Additionally, the perforations can be in a ring pattern about the outer perimeter of the disc. Still furthermore, the perforations can be in a central region of the disc. Still furthermore, the openings can be punched out to allow components on the wheel that heat up such as brakes, and the like, to be air cooled. The placement of the perforations does not overlap the areas of the design type indicia that can be placed on the external surface of the wheel cover.
Abstract:
There is disclosed a continuously variable ratio power transmission means comprising truncated cones having concave parabolic circumferential surfaces which surfaces are in rolling contact one with another and which can be moved in a linear fashion to provide a variable ratio dependent on point extent of overlap and rolling contact. In a preferred form of the invention positive drive is provided by a rack or band of gear teeth being provided in a helix around the periphery of each cone in a constant helix or lead angle.
Abstract:
A non-alloy steel component is nitrocarburized at 550.degree. to 720.degree. C. for up to 4 hours in a nitriding gaseous atmosphere e.g. ammonia or ammonia and endothermic or exothermic gas, and is thus exposed to air or other oxidizing atmosphere for 2 to 120 seconds to form an oxide-rich layer thereon before being quenched into an oil/water emulsion, degreased and a tack-free wax coating applied. Alternatively, the component may be cooled in air or other oxidizing atmosphere and then wax coated or it may be cooled in a non-oxidizing atmosphere and then reheated to provide the oxide-rich surface layer before being cooled again and wax coated. As a further alternative, the component may be cooled, lapped to a surface roughness of not more than 0.2 micrometers Ra, reheated to oxidize and then quenched. These techniques give a good corrosion resistance to the component.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a polymerization reaction vessel having a coating on the inner surfaces thereof resulting from applying thereto an aqueous coating solution of an alkali metal or ammonium salt of the reaction product or oligomers of an aromatic aldehyde, such as benzaldehyde, and the like, and a polyhydric phenol, such as resorcinol, and the like. When polymerizing olefinic monomers, such as vinyl halides, vinylidene halides, and vinylidene monomers having at least one terminal CH.sub.2 .dbd.CH
Abstract:
To impart good salt spray corrosion resistance to alloy steel components, such components are gas nitrocarburized at 550.degree. C. to 800.degree. C. to produce an epsilon layer, oxidized to produce an Fe.sub.3 O.sub.4 layer not more than 1 micrometer thick, quenched into an oil/water emulsion, degreased and then wax coated. The steel components may be surface finished after nitrocarburizing.A carburizing, carbonitriding or neutral atmosphere heat treatment may be effected prior to nitrocarburizing heat treatment with both heat treatments being effected at above the pearlite to austenite transformation temperature.

Abstract:
A television apparatus for performing personalized viewing mode adjustments in response to identifying individual viewers. A camera and image/facial recognition subsystems are configured to identify individuals and retrieve stored viewing adjustment preference information for use in automatically adjusting the viewing mode of the television, and optional external devices (e.g., electronically controlled lights, shades, and so forth), to enhance the television viewing experience for individuals and groups.
