Abstract: A vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication system, method and transponder for use in V2V communication, safety and anti-collision systems uses a continual, iterative consensus algorithm involving a consensus subset of vehicles within a communication range. The consensus set of vehicles participating in the consensus algorithm may not be the same. The algorithm comprises determining a parameter value used by the vehicles in the consensus set, then averaging, with modifications and rate of change limitations, the values from the consensus set for next use by each transponder. Parameters include two axis of location, elevation, transmit power and time base. Transmit power is responsive to demand and range. Methods of obtaining the as-used values include using equations and ranges. Embodiments include a hybrid protocol using both TDMA and CSMA. The invention is free of both central authority and road-side equipment (RSU).

Abstract: A vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication transponder for use in V2V communication, safety and anti-collision systems incorporating a location point store and a lane records store, wherein the lane records are constructed by the transponder from the point in the location point store, location points are received from other moving transponders, and lane records are shared between transponder response to a request. Separate source counts are kept for internally generated and shared lane records. Methods of sharing are described. Lane types are also derived from the location point store and other vehicle behavior. No central authority, road-side equipment, (RSU), or pre-determined lane maps are required. Embodiments include a hybrid protocol using both TDMA and CSMA. Some embodiments are free of MAC and IP addresses. Embodiments include equipped vehicles and V2V system using the transponder.

Abstract: A vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication transponder for use in V2V communication, safety and anti-collision systems using a hybrid protocol combining time-division multiplexed access (TDMA), with collision sense multiple access (CSMA) protocol. The TDMA frame is broken into regions, a priority and emergency TDMA region, and a non-priority CSMA region. The sizes of the TDMA regions change dynamically based on demand, with the CSMA region using the remaining time slots. Transponders self-select time slots; selected slots are held until a new time slot selection criteria; all transponders participate in notifying a transponder of a time slot message collision. An inter-transmission guard time may be dynamic based on range. Embodiments are free of MAC and IP addresses. No central authority or road-side equipment (RSU) is required. Embodiments include equipped vehicles and V2V system using the transponder.

Abstract: A device and method for a rotatable photovoltaic (PV) panel mount is described. A moving frame, comprising a standard PV panel, connects via a hinge to a fixed frame. In an “operative” position, the moving frame and its PV panel are coplanar with a larger, fixed array of PV panels. A spring between the fixed frame and the moving frame powers the moving frame to rotate around the hinge pivot from horizontal (operative) to vertical (roof access), when an emergency handle releases a latch. The roof access position provides unobstructed roof access to a portion of the roof previously under the PV panel. A damper limits speed of motion of the moving frame. Embodiments include an additional horizontal (folded) position, on top of an adjacent PV panel.

Abstract: An electronic interval timer in a regular dodecahedron case is described. The timer is set by orienting the timer so that a face with a time desired is face up. The timer is free of buttons, switches, and electronic displays. It is sealed for ruggedness and water-resistance, and free of a battery door and any moving parts, except for two speakers on opposing faces. The timer indicates start and end of set time intervals with unique speech announcements or tones. Two time intervals may run concurrently by orienting the timer to a second time while the first is running. A time interval may be selected by rotating to multiple faces where the time interval desired is the sum of the times on the faces. A timer mode may be programmed via an orientation sequence. Taps may be used to request a time remaining announcement or to set volume. Functions include a stopwatch. Waterproofing is achieved by a gap in a speaker shelf that admits air but not water.

Abstract: An electronic interval timer in a dodecahedron case is described. The timer is set by turning uppermost one of 11 faces; and reset by turning uppermost the 12th face. In one embodiment, the timer is free of buttons, knobs, springs, time displays, electronic visual indicators and openings in the case. Time interval completion is announced via audible tones or speech. An aggregate time interval may be set equal to the sum of legends on more than one face. The timer detects carrying such that a running time interval is not modified. The timer may be programmed via a sequence of uppermost sides. Modes may be selected via shaking or tapping. Time remaining may be announced, an interval cleared, or an interval restarted responsive to detected motion. Other polyhedral shapes may be used. Claims include a method of setting a time interval; and specific ordering of face legends.
