Abstract: A waveguide display includes a source assembly, an output waveguide, and a controller. The source assembly includes a light source and an optics system. The light source includes source elements arranged in a 1D or 2D array that emit image light. The optics system includes a scanning mirror assembly that scans the image light to particular locations based on scanning instructions. The output waveguide receives the scanned image light from the scanning mirror assembly and outputs an expanded image light. In some embodiments, the waveguide display includes a source waveguide and the 1D array of source elements. The source waveguide receives a conditioned image light from the source assembly. The controller generates the scanning instructions and provides the scanning instructions to the scanning mirror assembly. In some embodiments, the controller provides the scanning instructions to an actuator assembly of the source waveguide.

Abstract: A waveguide display system include a waveguide, an input coupler configured to couple display light into the waveguide, a first pupil expander, and a second pupil expander. The first pupil expander is configured to deflect, at a first plurality of locations along a first direction, the display light towards the second pupil expander. The second pupil expander is configured to deflect, at a second plurality of locations along a second direction different from the first direction, the display light from the first pupil expander towards an eyebox of the waveguide display system. At least one of the input coupler, the first pupil expander, or the second pupil expander includes transflective mirrors that are tilted within the waveguide such that the transflective mirrors are inconspicuous when viewed from an oblique angle.

Abstract: A display device includes a diffusion layer providing a single well, an optical element configured to receive light and output the received image light including a concentric series of lens segments made up of active facets, and a waveguide having an in-coupling grating and a waveguide body optically coupled to the image light, where a polarizing component is disposed over an output surface of the optical element. A method to improve a yield of silicon backplane displays includes connecting a diode having a resolution to a backplane and repairing a defect on a pixel display area by dividing the pixel display area into at least one subcircuit, while improving geometry stylization transfer for 3D models of real-world environments. A method for suppressing crosstalk for user conversations includes receiving multiple speech signals captured by multiple microphones and generating directional data for the multiple speech signals based on spatial filtering.

Abstract: A display device may include a projector coupled to volume Bragg grating (VBG) based pupil-replicating lightguide. The projector may be a scanning projector or a display panel based projector. A lighting unit for the display panel may have spatially variant spectral composition selected to match angular and wavelength selectivity of the VBGs of the pupil-replicating lightguide, thereby improving light utilization efficiency of the display device. In scanning projector implementations, the center wavelength of the scanned light beam may be varied in coordination with the scanning, to achieve the same effect.

Abstract: A pupil-replicating lightguide includes a slab of transparent material, a switchable out-coupling grating for out-coupling portions of image light to propagate towards an eyebox, and a switchable tracking grating for redirecting tracking light carrying an eye image towards an eye tracking camera. One of the two gratings may be turned ON while the other is turned OFF, in a time-sequential manner, allowing the combined use of the pupil-replicating lightguide for carrying image light and eye tracking light.

The first pupil-replicating waveguide is configured for receiving an input beam of image light and providing an intermediate beam comprising multiple offset portions of the input beam. The second pupil-replicating waveguide is configured for receiving the intermediate beam from the first pupil-replicating waveguide and providing an output beam comprising multiple offset portions of the intermediate beam. Abstract: Techniques disclosed herein relate to a near-eye display system. One example of an eye-tracking system includes a substrate transparent to visible light and infrared light and a reflective holographic grating conformally coupled to a surface of the substrate. The reflective holographic grating is configured to transmit the visible light and reflectively diffract infrared light in a first wavelength range for eye tracking. The refractive index modulation of the reflective holographic grating is apodized in a direction along a thickness of the reflective holographic grating to reduce optical artifacts in the visible light.
