Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided that allow for the realignment and stabilization of adjacent vertebrae. An implant of this invention both repositions adjacent vertebrae and remains in situ to maintain the new position. The implant has two halves which are interlocked such that they can slide horizontally with respect to each other. Movement of the implant halves and their respective positions are controlled by set screw within the implant. The implant includes radial anchors which fit into alignment slots made in the misaligned vertebra by the disclosed method. The set screws are used to advance the halves of the implant which in turn move the misaligned vertebrae back into correct positions. The correct position of the vertebrae is locked in place through a nut and a plate.

Abstract: An improved head for a flexible line trimmer apparatus is provided. The improved head includes a metal tubing that extends through the head and surrounds a cutting line of selected length. The tubing is provided with a flared exit portal increasing the efficiency of the head. The contact surface eliminates the possibility of the cutting line fusing to plastic surfaces due to heating caused by friction. The head is surrounded with an interior perimeter counterweight to store kinetic energy on each end having a parabolic surface of revolution concentric with the axis of the tubing. A replaceable cartridge is provided to increase the ease of maintenance and the useful life of the head.

Abstract: A head for a line trimming apparatus includes a body member and a detachable cover that may include a replaceable insert for connecting the head to a drive shaft of a line trimming apparatus. The body member includes opposed openings and a filament-receiving channel for inserting an elongated flexible cutting filament into the head for retention thereon. A spring-biased clamp is supported on the body member and is engageable with the filament portion residing in the channel to releasably retain the filament connected to the head. An actuator button projects through an opening in the body member and is operable to be pressed to cause the clamp to release forcible engagement with a filament so that the filament may be removed and replaced. In one embodiment the clamp and actuator are an integrally formed part and the filament projects through openings formed in spaced apart arms of the clamp member. In embodiments, the clamp and actuator members are separate parts that are mounted for sliding movement in the body member. Coil springs are operable to bias the clamp members of the embodiments into forcible engagement with the filament.

Abstract: A head for a line trimming apparatus includes a body member and a detachable cover which may include a replaceable insert for connecting the head to a drive shaft of a line trimming apparatus. Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided that allow for the realignment and stabilization of adjacent vertebrae. An implant of this invention both repositions adjacent vertebrae and remains in situ to maintain a new position. The implant has an upper half and a lower half, which are interlocked such that they can slide horizontally with respect to each other. Movement of the implant halves and their respective positions are controlled by a reduction bar and reduction rod in combination with an internal locking block within the implant. The reduction rod, being connected to a lower half and placed adjacent to the upper half, is rotated to bring the implant halves into alignment. The internal locking block engages to permanently hold the alignment and maintain the new position. A release mechanism for the internal locking block allows for readjustment of the implant halves and realignment of the vertebrae.
