Abstract:
Particulate material to be calcined is conditioned and then introduced into a stream of flue gases which transport the material along a sloping drying duct while drying the material. The dried material is then introduced into the same stream of flue gases upstream of the drying duct, and the flue gases transport the dried material along a sloping preheating duct while preheating the material. The preheated material is fed tangentially into the lower end of a vertical calcine reactor and calcined product is withdrawn tangentially from the upper end of the reactor. The flue gases used for drying and preheating are produced in the calcine reactor and are cooled during the drying and preheating.
Abstract:
An apparatus (30) for use in pumping hydraulic fluid includes a pump unit (32) which is driven by an electric motor (34). The electric motor (34) is mounted on a tubular stem (108) which extends axially outward from a manifold plate (44). A stator (100) of the electric motor (34) is fixedly connected with the tubular stem (108). A rotor (112) of the electric motor (34) encloses the stator (100). A hydraulic muffler (50) attenuates noise produced by the gear pump unit (32). The hydraulic muffler (50) includes a channel (58) which extends into the manifold plate (44) from a major side surface (63) of the manifold plate. To increase the ability of the hydraulic muffler (50) to attenuate noise, one or two compliant elements (152 or 166 and 168) are connected with the channel (58).
Abstract:
A coal extract hydrocracking catalyst having particular utility in a two stage coal extracting process which has a first liquid hydrogen donor solvent oil extraction stage and a second stage comprising catalytic hydrocracking of the extract. Desired levels of hydrocracking and hydrogenation of the extract, with an acceptable level of naphthene formation, are achieved by using on the coal extract hydrocracking catalyst a mixture of a promoted W or Mo catalyst with an unpromoted W or Mo catalyst.
Abstract:
An elevated colander facilitates separating a mixture of solids and fluid while reducing risk of contamination of the solids from backsplash than traditional methods and devices. The colander may be placed into a larger receptacle (e.g., sink) from which fluid may be disposed, and a mixture of solids and fluids may be poured into the colander to isolate the solids from the fluids. Fluids entering the colander may escape through a plurality of holes in outer walls of the colander and spill into the larger receptacle. A lower ring and bottom surface of the elevated colander below the outer walls may each prevent a measure of backsplash from reentering the colander, thereby minimizing contamination of the solids from the larger receptacle. A support structure extending from the bottom surface may elevate the colander and its contents above pooling fluid accumulating below.
Abstract:
Tool for finishing a plastic filler includes an elongate member having a first end and an opposing second end; on the first end of the member is an absorbent/adsorbent structural component; and on the second end of the member is a spatula blade. The elongate member may have a stabilizing contrivance for the absorbent/adsorbent structural component and/or spatula blade. The spatula blade may have a laterally extending rib.
Abstract:
A non-invasive apparatus and method for measuring the speed of a rotating device that includes a sensor that measures a dynamic characteristic of the rotating device. A sample of the signal is transformed from the time domain into a frequency spectrum. The frequency spectrum is then analyzed to determine the motor speed. The resulting motor speed can be combined with other motor data by an order analysis to identify malfunctioning or improperly installed components.
Abstract:
Slicing machine has a protective knife or blade edge guard for that portion of the periphery of the circular knife which is not coverable by the conventional gauge plate during sharpening of the knife edge or cleaning of the face and rearside of the knife. The blade edge guard is fastened to a bearing block for the shaft which supports and drives the knife, by means of spaced spokes extending from the block to the guard. A parallel pair of the spokes support slotted plates which mount a knife sharpener having stones for grinding and honing the edge of the knife. The sharpener has fixed pins on a body portion thereof, which pins cooperate with open-ended slots in said plates to enable the sharpener to be readily moved between inactive and active positions and removable for cleaning, all with one hand positioning or movement of the sharpener.
Abstract:
A method of preventing interference between `friendly` pulse doppler radars when in action against a common target or adjacents targets. Despite considerable separation of the radar r.f's the pulsed signals have repeated sideband pulses which may be taken by another radar as a doppler-shifted echo. This problem is to a large extent alleviated by frequency modulating the r.f. transmission at a very low cycle rate of the order of one cycle per second and at a modulation rate sufficient to indicate to a receiving radar that the source could not be a target accelerating at such a high rate.
Abstract:
A static-split tracking radar system with substantially improved performance. The system includes parallel signal processing channels for processing sum and difference signals from a target-seeking aerial array, to produce target tracking signals. Novel means are provided for trimming relative phase and gain of these channels to achieve substantially perfect matching, which gives a receiver stability sufficient for homing head use in a guided missile system. The system also includes a receiver for acquiring a reference frequency signal, the receiver having novel bandwidth adaptation and doppler tracking facilities. Other novel features provide improved clutter rejection and jamming immunity.
Abstract:
A thermal distribution and regulation system for a garment that includes a self-contained heat source, such as a catalytic heat source. A heat manifold extends about a surface of the heat source and is mechanically adjusted relative to the surface of the heat source to control the contact surface area between the heat source and heat manifold to regulate heat conducted from the heat source. The heat manifold is configured to engage the surface of the heat source at more than one predetermined location to prevent inadvertent movement between the heat source and heat manifold. The system also includes a plurality of heat conductors coupled to the heat manifold and affixed to the garment. An end of each heat conductor is coupled to the heat manifold for conducting heat from the heat manifold to the garment to warm the garment.
