Abstract: When a base station is capable of using multiple different types of waveforms for a downlink communication to a UE, the UE may waste processing resources attempting to receive and/or process the downlink communication. For example, the UE may cycle through various possible types of waveforms in an attempt to process the downlink communication. Techniques described herein use waveform signaling for downlink communications to notify the UE of a type of waveform being used for a downlink communication, thereby conserving UE resources (e.g., processing resources, memory resources, RF resources, and/or the like) that would otherwise be wasted attempting to process the downlink communication using multiple types of waveforms.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to synchronization signaling supporting multiple waveforms. A synchronization signal block (SSB) is configurable for transmission using either at least a first waveform or a second waveform, where the first waveform has higher peak to average power ratio (PAPR) characteristics such as OFDM and the second waveform has lower PAPR characteristics, such as DFT-S-OFDM. The SSB is transmitted selectively using either the first waveform or the second waveform for transmission of the SSB. Furthermore, the characteristics of the transmission such as a predetermined pattern of the first and second waveform transmissions may be utilized to communicate to a receiver the type of waveform being used. In this manner, SSB transmissions may take advantage of respective advantages afforded by each type of waveform, particularly when using higher frequency transmissions above 40 GHz in wireless communication systems.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless device may identify, for an initial slot of a periodic interval, a number of symbols included in the initial slot and a length of cyclic prefixes used for the symbols included in the initial slot based on a subcarrier spacing that is configured for wireless communication. The length of a first set of cyclic prefixes may be based on a length of a cyclic prefix calculated for an initial symbol of the initial slot at the configured subcarrier spacing. The wireless device may perform communications based on the determined number of symbols and length of cyclic prefixes included in the initial slot. Performing communications may include allocating resources based on a length of the cyclic prefixes used for the symbols included in the initial slot.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to wireless communication networks having a capability of controlling the mapping of reference signals onto a carrier based on one or more Doppler parameters. A demodulation reference signal (DMRS) is mapped to a carrier according to a pattern based on one or more Doppler parameters, such as a Doppler frequency and/or a rate of change of channel conditions. In a further example, if an initial transmission of an information packet fails due to a high Doppler scenario, the probability of success of the retransmission may be improved by altering the DMRS configuration to account for the high Doppler scenario. Other aspects, examples, and features are also claimed and described.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, in a control channel, a first grant identifying a first set of resources of a first data channel on which the UE is to monitor for one or more second grants, the first data channel being downlink. The UE may monitor the first set of resources in the first data channel for the one or more second grants, the one or more second grants identifying a second set of resources of a second data channel on which the UE is to perform data communications. The UE may transmit, based at least in part on the monitoring the first set of resources, a feedback message associated with receipt of the one or more second grants.
