Abstract:
The present invention is recyclable photographic film base which includes a cellulose acetate support. An antistatic layer is superposed on one side of the support and includes an antistatic agent. A barrier layer comprising a polymeric composition having a glass transition temperature of less than 90.degree. C. overlies the antistatic layer. In a preferred embodiment the polymeric composition of the barrier layer in poly(isobutyl methacrylate).
Abstract:
Protective overcoat compositions and photographic elements containing same comprise:(a) a hydroxylated latex polymer;(b) a hydrolyzed metal lower alkoxide; and,(c) a fluoroalkyl polyether surface active agent. The overcoat is transparent and flexible and provides protection against scratches and abrasion.
Abstract:
Crosslinked conductive polymers, coating compositions and light sensitive elements containing at least one antistat layer where the cross-linked polymer is a copolymer of a vinylbenzene sulfonic acid and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing at least one primary hydroxyl group cross-linked with a hydrolyzed metal lower alkoxide.
Abstract:
An ink composition that is useful in ink jet printing contains a polymeric binder and a dye dissolved in a liquid medium containing water, certain organic liquids which function as a solvent for the binder and the dye, and certain other organic liquids which function as evaporation retardants. The ink composition is environmentally safe, has excellent shelf life, and exhibits excellent physical and chemical properties for use in ink jet printers.
Abstract:
A rapid-drying image-recording element adapted for water-based liquid ink marking, in devices such as pen plotters, ink jet printers and the like, comprises a support having thereon a hydrophilic ink-receiving layer which is cross-linked to a degree sufficient to render it non-blocking and waterfast while permitting it to rapidly absorb a water-based liquid ink. The element is utilized in combination with a water-based liquid ink that comprises a water-dispersible cross-linkable colorant/resin composition and the ink-receiving layer contains a cross-linking agent which cross-links the colorant/resin composition to thereby render the ink markings smear-resistant, abrasion-resistant and waterfast.
Abstract:
An aqueous coating composition comprises (a) a hydrophilic binder; (b) an ester of cellulose having at least 8 acyl groups per C.sub.24 cellulose unit wherein at least a majority of the acyl groups are derived from an aliphatic polycarboxylic acid having from 3 to 6 carbon atoms; or a salt of the ester; and (c) a hardening agent in an amount sufficient to render the composition water-insoluble after coating and drying of the composition. This coating composition is useful for forming water-insoluble, conductive and highly-adherent layers in composite bases or elements, and particularly in photographic elements having hydrophobic supports. The conductive layers can be used, for example, as conducive subbing layers or conductive pelloid layers.
