Abstract: A device including a speaker and a housing, in which the speaker is configured to generate sound and includes a diaphragm and the housing encloses the speaker and includes a plurality of openings within one portion of the housing. The speaker is positioned within the housing to define a front chamber between the diaphragm and the one portion, and the plurality of openings are sized to collectively generate, with the front chamber, an increased output of the device within a frequency range of an output of the speaker corresponding to an alarm tone. Also provided are methods for assembling a device including a speaker and a housing.
