Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for receiving, at a server computer, a plurality of content messages from a plurality of content sources, each content message comprising media content and associated with a predetermined media collection, for each of the plurality of content messages received, analyzing each of the plurality of content messages to determine a quality score for each of the plurality of content messages, and storing each of the plurality of content messages in a database along with the quality score for each of the plurality of content messages. The systems and methods further provided for receiving, from an operator device, a threshold percentage for the media collection, determining a subset of the plurality of content messages associated with the media collection to be made available to the operator device based on the threshold percentage received from the operator device and the quality score for each of the plurality of content messages, and causing only the subset of the plurality of content messages associated with media collection to be displayed on the operator device for the media collection.

Abstract: A map-based graphical user interface (GUI) for a public messaging platform allows a user location-based to their own expired ephemeral content. Such expired content is no longer available to other users for online viewing. The user can, however, switch the GUI between a live mode and a historical mode, access to their own expired content in the historical mode being facilitated in a manner closely similar to that for viewing live publicly available content.

Abstract: Among other things, embodiments of the present disclosure improve the functionality of electronic messaging and imaging software and systems by determining the current activities of users based on location sensor information from the users' computing devices and generating customized media content items based on their activities. The media content can be generated for a variety of topics and shared with other users. For example, media content (e.g., images or video) can be generated and displayed on a user's computing device, as well as transmitted to other users via electronic communications, such as short message service (SMS) or multimedia service (MMS) texts and emails.

Abstract: A server-side administrative interface for a social media platform allows for restriction of defined geographical areas. Social media items originating from such restricted areas are automatically filtered or age-restricted for availability via a map-based graphical user interface of the social media platform.

Abstract: A map-based graphical user interface for a social media application displays to social media activity information based on submission of geo-tagged social media items to the platform. Geographical distributions of social activity is displayed on a map forming part of the application. A heatmap can represent posting density or unusualness.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for receiving a request to activate a new media collection, input increasing the default predetermined window of time that the new media collection is accessible, and input decreasing or increasing the default geographic boundary size for where media content for the media collection originates. The systems and methods further provide for sending the request to a server computer to activate the new media collection, receiving confirmation that the new media collection was activated and causing a plurality of content messages to be included in the new media collection and displayed in response to a request from at least one computing device to view the new media collection based on determining the request occurs within the increased predetermined window of time that the new media collection is accessible.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for analyzing messages generated by a plurality of computing devices associated with a plurality of users in a messaging system to generate training data to train a machine learning model to determine a probability that a media content item was generated inside an enclosed location or outside, receiving a media content item from a computing device, analyzing the media content item using the trained machine learning model to determine a probability that the media content item was generated inside an enclosed location or outside, determining, based on the probability generated by the trained machine learning model, that the media content item was generated inside an enclosed location, and determining an inside temperature associated with the venue based on messages generated by a plurality of computing devices in a messaging system comprising media content items and temperature information for the venue or a similar venue type.

Abstract: In a graphical user interface (GUI) for a social media platform, social media content is surfaced with variable visual attributes based on activity metrics. In a GUI for a social media platform, where the GUI provides access to posted social media items, an activity metric is determined for the underlying social media activity associated with each of multiple collections of social media items. The GUI displays user-selectable interface elements, such as icons, corresponding to these collections, with each icon having a visual attribute that varies depending on the activity metric. This results in visual differences between collection icons based on differences in their corresponding activity metrics.
