Abstract: Systems and methods for providing a visualization capability to map magnetic fields. The system utilizes a high-sensitivity magnetic field sensor (e.g., a magnetometer inside a tube made of magnetic shielding material) disposed on one side of a magnetic field modulation screen to acquire measurement data representing an image of a magnetic field. The magnetic field modulation screen includes a multiplicity of magnetic field-generating pixel elements (e.g., current-carrying loops made of electrically conductive material). Optionally, the system also uses compressive sensing techniques to reduce the amount of measurement data required to reconstruct an image of the original magnetic field. Compressive sensing is enabled by not supplying current to a different selected individual magnetic field-generating pixel element of the magnetic field modulation screen at successive sampling times.

Abstract: Various techniques provide nanostructure-based optical limiters for facilitating aperture protection. In one example, a method includes receiving, via a first window, incident light on a solution, where the solution includes liquid medium, a gas dissolved in the liquid medium, and nanostructures in contact with the liquid medium. The method further includes generating heat in the liquid medium based on oscillations of a subset of the plurality of nanostructures in response to the incident light. The method further includes releasing at least a portion of the gas from the solution as gas bubbles in response to the generated heat. The method further includes scattering, by the released gas bubbles, the incident light to prevent the incident light from reaching a second window. Related systems and products are also provided.

Abstract: According to various embodiments, a system for, and method of, detecting the opening of a lid of a compartment constructed of a rigid material. The system includes a resonator disposed on a wall of the compartment, where the resonator has a resonant frequency of mechanical vibration. The system also includes a member disposed on the lid of the compartment and positioned to perturb the resonator upon opening the lid, such that opening the lid causes the resonator to mechanically vibrate at the resonant frequency. The system also includes an electronic sensor disposed on the compartment to detect vibrations at the resonant frequency. The system also includes an interface communicatively coupled to the electronic sensor and configured to provide a signal indicating lid opening data representing at least one opening of the lid.

Abstract: An airfoil comprises a skin, comprising an external surface and an internal surface. The skin has a controlled region. The airfoil also comprises an interior space, formed by the skin. The airfoil additionally comprises a hybrid acoustic induction-heating system, configured to impede formation of ice on the external surface. The hybrid acoustic induction-heating system comprises an induction coil and a control system. At least a portion of the induction coil is sufficiently close to the internal surface to produce an eddy current within the controlled region when an alternating electrical current is flowing in the induction coil. The control system is configured to generate inductive heat and acoustic pressure in the controlled region by supplying the alternating electrical current to the induction coil based, at least in part, on an ambient temperature of a layer of fluid flowing over the external surface.
